Pretty recent transplant to the midwest. Often described as an "obnoxious redhead who is rude, crude, and socially unacceptable". Dreams of winning the lottery and traveling the world.

Alice’s Wonderland by Allison Dobel

Published by: Avon Read

“When journalist and notorious womanizer Flynn O’Grady publicly mocks Alice Mitchell’s erotic luxury goods website, the game is on. Determined to change his mind about sex toys and the people who use them, Alice decides to wrap her high-end silken blindfold over his eyes and teach him a thing or two. They soon find themselves locked in a game where Alice must step up the spice night after night as, one by one, Flynn’s defenses crumble. To win, she must prove to Flynn that changing the routine, rather than the partner, can be the greatest adventure of all

The title play on “Alice in Wonderland” is what got my attention.  That was where any comparison should stop.

Alice’s Wonderland is a high-end sex shoppe in Sydney, Australia.  Alice works hard to run her business and find very exclusive lingerie and toys to stock her shoppe. She takes pride in her work and is suitably peeved when some blogger bad mouths her and her customers.

Flynn is a “love ‘em and leave ‘em” kind of guy. Commitment phobic as well as anti-anything being brought into the bedroom, especially toys.

But I love how Alice tries to get Flynn to see things from her point of view…there wasn’t a lot of talking involved! Hey, I’m all about “walking the walk, and talking the talk”. Flynn to his credit is open-minded to a point, and that’s where the conflict comes in.

Overall the story was cute. Not a lot of sex but there was a lot of heat! It was a quick, one-sitting read for a cold night by the fire.

“Sienna Jensen had no plans to return home when she graduated college last spring—after all, her dreams lie in California. But when she discovers her grandmother’s Nashville home has been foreclosed, and the new owner has started the eviction process, Sienna has no other choice but go back to Music City. And she comes face to face with the flawed, gorgeous man she never thought she’d see again. The man who now holds the deed to her grandma’s estate.

When millionaire rock star Lucas Wolfe finds the outspoken redhead glaring at him from across a courtroom, he’s both infuriated and intrigued. He still can’t get the night Sienna almost spent with him out of his mind, and the chemistry between them is as undeniable as it was two years ago. He craves Sienna more than ever. And just like everything Lucas hungers for, he’s determined to have her.

Now, Lucas will do whatever it takes to lure Sienna into his bed, even if that means making a deal with her: ten days with him, playing by his rules, and he’ll hand over the deed to her grandmother’s home. Though she agrees to the arrangement, Sienna is conflicted. Because of her duty to her family. Because of promises she’s made to herself and a past that still haunts her. And as Lucas’s game of seduction continues, and Sienna is introduced to his dark, erotic world and even darker background, she realizes that at any moment, she could be devoured.”

Another book with a very contrived plot, only this one took on the whole foreclosure issue…and did it in a very unrealistic fashion.

Ultimately Sienna is the “one that got away” and actually resisted, *gasp*, Lucas’s charms. He, naturally, has never forgotten it. (side note: can a person BE that arrogant?) Lucas comes up with his plan to get Sienna to work for him for 10 days, doing ANYTHING he asks, to save her grandmother’s house.  This allowed for some very vanilla, almost-BDSM, as well as the usual miscommunications and misunderstandings. Really the story was very forgettable.

Anything He Wants by Sara Fawkes

Dominated by the Billionaire #1-5

Published by St. Martin’s Griffin

Publication Date: November 27, 2012

Galley Edition

Lucy Delacourt’s temp position isn’t quite her dream job but it pays the bills. The highlight of her day is riding the elevator in the mornings with a handsome stranger. Tall, dark, and sexy as hell, Lucy knows he’s way out of her league, but a girl can look, right?

Everything changes the day the stranger seduces her. Completely out of character, she yields without a fight, but she has no idea her wanton acts with a man whose name she doesn’t know will change her life forever. Because the sexy stranger is none other than Jeremiah Hamilton, billionaire CEO of Hamilton Industries, and one taste isn’t nearly enough to satisfy his need.  As the billionaire pulls Lucy deeper into his world of high stakes business deals and ruthless takeovers, he demands nothing less than her complete surrender.  But even as enemies seek deadly revenge against him, she’ll discover that her greatest threat is falling for her fiercely guarded boss…and yielding to her own darkest needs.”

This was originally published as a 5-part serial e-novel.  It’s since been picked up and the 5 parts that makes this book will be published in paperback format in November.

Fawkes grabs your attention on the first pages with a really hot elevator scene! After reading that scene I thought, “You have my attention!”. Frankly, Fawkes didn’t let me go until the last page and I was still thinking about this book long after I’d finished.

Lucy thinks herself rather plain, boring, and inexperienced…and she can’t for the life of her, understand, how she managed to garner Jeremiah’s attention.  Jeremiah, meanwhile, is older, at the top of his game, and had an incredibly dysfunctional upbringing.

While this is very reminiscent of “50 Shades of Grey”, this was decidedly better written and there was an element of mystery running throughout. The huge cliffhanger finish left me screaming for MORE! I am hoping/assuming there will be another “Dominated by the Billionaire” installment.

If you read 50 Shades and thought it could have been done better, or maybe you loved it…either way, read this! I promise you won’t be disappointed.

 Tangled Web #2

Self Published available through Amazon.com

High school English teacher Erin Lancaster is stuck with the unwelcome job of filling in for the injured cheerleading coach, but she wants to back out when she discovers she has to be auctioned as a date during the annual spring fundraiser. She’s horrified to find her rock star crush Riley Schultz, former frontman of Spawn, will be playing emcee for the event, but she’s even more shocked that he also happens to be the highest bidder for her affections, and sparks fly when she discovers that maybe their attraction is mutual.

Riley’s been in the music business long enough to know that true love is not in the cards for him, but the cute blonde he’s dropped a wad of cash on would be a welcome distraction during his vacation. He has no idea there’s more to her than meets the eye.

Will one week together be enough for them to quell the flames, to enjoy everything but?

Ever since I read “Backstage Pass” by Olivia Cunning, I’ve been a sucker for rock star stories…especially rock star erotica!  So when I saw this title I knew it was for me. I was slightly disappointed in that the extent of the “rock star lifestyle” was Riley being recognized when he returned to his hometown.

Another issue I had with this otherwise “cute” story was that Erin was in danger of losing her job if she continued to see the “rock star”.  The school board just wasn’t going to offer her a contract for the coming year…the irony being that the “rock stars” Mom and school board president, was the instigator of this action.

I guess that would be my issue with this book as a whole. The author was just trying too hard and manufactured a very lame conflict.  Meanwhile, the sex was very vanilla and there was very little of it.
