EXCLUSIVE EXCERPT:

“I got lucky up until my senior year. My parents did do their best to help me learn self-confidence and have good self-esteem. For the record,I don’t say things like that for any reason other than because I mean them. No, the bond doesn’t make me think you’re gorgeous. You’ve figured that out, haven’t you?”

Quincy nodded. “Yes.”

“Then you know I mean it. I love you, Quince, very much. But I don’t think you’re hot because I love you. I’m attracted to you, want to get my dick inside you, because you’re hot.”
The crude words did what he’d hoped. Quincy smirked. “Thinking you’re going to top, are you?”
Miles grinned. “I know I am.”

Quincy’s smirk turned into a grin. “If you can catch me.” And on that note, he started shifting.
Miles was only a few seconds behind him, but it was enough for Quincy to get a head start. He didn’t mind. His wolf liked the chase, loved the challenge. He also loved running through the woods in wolf form, loved the feel of the wind in his fur. And knowing what was at the other end made it even better.

Quincy didn’t make it easy, which Miles appreciated. It took a good while before he finally caught up, but once Quincy’s trail got stronger, it didn’t take long to find him. That’s when Miles realized his mate had an unfair advantage. He stopped, sat down, and chuffed.

Quincy was up in the tree.

He lay sprawled over a couple of the branches, his tail swinging back and forth, taunting Miles.
Miles watched in amusement, trying to decide what he wanted to do. Before he could make his decision, the other four wolves found them. Chad sat at the base of the tree, head cocked, looking for all the world like a confused puppy. Tanner simply snorted and stretched out off to the side. Jamie and Finley barked at Quincy, and if Miles could have translated, it probably would have been something like, Awww, is the kitty hiding in the tree from the big, bad wolves?

Miles saw it coming before anyone else did. He backed up and lay down next to Tanner just as Quincy batted at the first pine cone hanging next to him. He knocked it loose and it dropped, hitting Chad in the head.

Chad yipped, jumped back, then growled up at Quincy. Finley fell over, snorting and chuffing, rolling around as he did so. Jamie made a sort of snorting noise that Miles thought meant he was trying to keep from laughing at Chad.

It didn’t work. Chad turned his attention to Jamie and growled instead.

Quincy got Jamie back for Chad, though. The second pine cone hit Jamie’s nose. The third caught Finley on the belly.

By this time even Tanner was having trouble holding in his mirth. Miles had amusement and pride battling inside him. He couldn’t decide if getting the best of the wolves was funnier… or if Quincy was just that awesome because he did.

As fun as it was, though, Miles had something better he wanted to do yet. He shifted and grinned up at Quincy. “You know this means I win, right? I caught you. Just because I’m not up there doesn’t mean I didn’t catch you.”

Quincy sighed, twitched his tail a few more times, then leapt lightly to the ground. He sat, licked his paw, and ran it over his face, looking like he hadn’t just been called out.

Miles grinned and shifted back, padded over, and sat next to his mate.

The other wolves came up and, one by one, bopped Quincy before taking off. Quincy managed to look very put-upon even while still in cat form, growling quietly until they left. Miles chuffed at him, then stood and tugged Quincy’s ear. Quincy looked slightly confused but stood as well.

Miles led Quincy through the woods again, past his favorite stream—the one they’d found Quincy next to the other day—then along another path. Finally, they came out at a small clearing, surrounded by thick forest. Above them, the waning crescent moon provided just enough light. Miles sniffed until he found what he was looking for, then shifted and pulled out the blanket and small bag.

When he turned around, Quincy had shifted back as well. “What’s this?”

“I asked Jamie and Chad to bring this out earlier. I thought you might appreciate a little privacy, rather than have the others so close.” Miles spread out the blanket, then held his hand out. “Bond with me, Quincy.”

Thanks again to the 3 Chicks! I hope you enjoyed it!

ABOUT THE BOOK:

AcceptanceFS_halfsizeDr. Miles Grant acknowledges that his destined mate could be either gender even though his bisexuality cost him his family and his pack. Luckily he found the Forbes Pack, who happily accept him just as he is. What he never counted on was finding his mate in Pittsburgh or for his mate to be another species entirely—a cat!

Quincy Archer isn’t just any jaguar shifter. He is the heir to the leadership of his pride. Destined mates are nothing but legend to the nearly extinct and generally solitary jaguars, and Quincy certainly never expected to find one for himself, much less a male… or a wolf.

However, finding each other and coming to terms with their species is the least of their worries. Quincy is expected to select a proper female mate, father a cub, and take his place as heir to the pride. Except Quincy refuses, having no interest in women or leadership and knowing he isn’t right for it. But his father will stop at nothing—not even attempting to kill Miles—to get his way. Quincy and Miles must overcome many obstacles to stay together as the destined mates they’re meant to be.

BLOG TOUR: Third Mate (River Wolf Pack #3) by Rebecca James

Third Mate Banner

Today we’re thrilled to welcome Rebecca James to 3 Chicks to discuss her latest River Wolf Pack  story, Third Mate.  Please join us in making her feel at home! :)

GUEST POST:

Where do we go from here?
Book three leaves our favorites in a rather precarious position, and some readers may wonder if there will be a book four. The answer is yes, probably, although the end of book three can be thought of as a stopping point. My publisher plans to put the first three books in a box set. If you’re one of those people who don’t like to read a series until it’s finished, you can safely read these three books and feel a fair sense of completion with a HFN (happily for now).

Speaking of which, there are many who talk about HFE (happily forever), and I’m of the opinion that that can only be achieved if you follow the MC’s through their entire lives and end with them old and together or dying and together (I actually read a book like this recently). I’m unlikely to write that, although never say never. I do, however, like to write books that end happily for my characters, with the reasonable assumption that they’re staying together forever.

So, what’s planned for book four?
Without really spoiling what happens at the end of book three, I’ll say there will be more of the Turned, more of Foster’s quest for his soul mate, a possible reappearance of a threat, and more sex, lol.

What else have I got going on?
Well, I have more of Nicco and Rider from Partners and Lovers. I’ve got a contemporary story in the works that’s got older/younger MC’s. I have a contemporary vampire story and a paranormal sci-fi. I’ll tell you a little about the contemporary story. It’s about a nineteen-year-old young man named Ethan who lives in the southern United States with his father who is a preacher. Ethan meets Donovan, a doctor from New York City, online and eventually arranges to meet with him. Ethan had initially lied about his age, and he never told Donovan otherwise. When Donovan finds out, he doesn’t want anything to do with Ethan. But Ethan’s had one night of passion, and he won’t be put off that easily.

Here’s a short, unedited snippet:
Rubbing my arm, I zeroed in on an empty space across the room and made my way to it, looking neither left nor right as I zig-zagged around tables. The couch was black and sort of built into the wall with colorful cushions in each corner. I sat and looked around. There were these long, swirly lamps coming down from the ceiling made with little crystals, sort of like twisted waterfalls. Two fancy chairs were facing the couch. Most of the people in the bar sat on the modern white chairs situated around tables, and even though I wanted to be alone, after a few minutes I felt really conspicuous by myself. I tried not to fidget and to look like I belonged.

“What can I get you, sir?” a young woman dressed in black pants and a plain white button-down shirt asked me. She held a tray under her arm and a pad of paper and pen in her hands.

I fished my wallet out of my pocket. I was only nineteen, but most people said I looked older, and I had a really good fake ID.

“A Tom Collins, please,” I said. That seemed like a good, safe drink. Not too fancy, not too boring. The waitress looked at my ID then at me, nodded, and walked away. I hoped no one noticed my sigh of relief. I’d told Donovan I was twenty-four and had gone to college late, when I was really only just finishing up my freshman year at the local po-dunk community college. I was working on getting in somewhere better, but one thing at a time.

I realized I was frowning and leaned back, putting one arm up over the back fo the couch, trying for casual and comfortable.

“Ethan?”

I jumped in my seat, blood rushing to my cheeks at the sound of that voice. Man, I’d know it anywhere. I turned and got my first in-person look at Donovan O’Reilly. He was even more gorgeous face-to-face, and I wouldn’t have thought that possible.

EXCERPT:

Stone’s sharp, deep voice cut into Leo’s thoughts, and he turned his attention to the front where the contentious alpha had already begun arguing his points.

“…no place for females. Do they even have any werewolf in them?”

“Of course they do; they’re mine. They are developing as quickly as any werewolf child.” River said more calmly than Leo would have under the scrutiny of so many condemning eyes.

“But have they shifted?” someone asked.

“Not yet. You know as well as I do that they could be a year old before they shift.”

If they shift,” Stone muttered. “And most do by seven months.”

“If they don’t shift,” someone else said, “they aren’t werewolves. They’ll have to leave.”

“They don’t belong here.” Stone stood, feet apart and hands on hips. Justin, Stone’s pregnant omega, cowered in submission at the sound of Stone’s displeased voice. His three beta mates sat with eyes downcast, although Leo saw Canaan glance up more than once. There was something shrewd and calculating about Canaan, and although Leo felt sorry for him after his son was killed, it didn’t make it any easier to like him.

“As my children, they certainly do belong here, as yours do, and the progeny of everyone else present,” River said, tone brooking no argument.

Stone made a frustrated sound and looked around, eyes landing on Griffin, an alpha of Stone’s age.

Griffin stood. “Your own father drove your mate’s father from the pack for having relations with a human female.”

“My father did not drive him out. Derrick was punished—told he couldn’t leave the compound. But he ran away.”

“This is true,” Old Ben called out.

“The fact remains that Thorn did not approve of the boy’s actions,” Griffin argued. “He didn’t invite Derrick to bring his female lover into the pack because females don’t belong with werewolves.”

“I don’t know what you’re getting at,” River said with a sigh. “I am not attempting to bring a female among us. My daughters were born to me, and are therefore a part of this pack.”

Before Griffin could speak again, Stone interrupted. “Which wouldn’t have happened if you hadn’t mated with the half-human, which you did without consulting the pack.”

“Josiah is a werewolf,” River said. “And I do not need to consult my pack before mating.”

Half-werewolf,” Stone corrected. “Unlike someone who willingly takes the bite and transforms, your mate will always be part human. Which is why he spawned twin abominations—”

In two steps, River crossed the room and had Stone’s neck between his hands, thumbs cutting off the alpha’s air flow. Leo glanced at the humans. Several flinched, and others looked horrified.

“Don’t you ever,” River breathed heavily into Stone’s purpling face, “ever speak of my mate or children in that manner again. Am I clear?”

Stone’s eyes bulged and his mouth gaped as he tried to dislodge River’s grip. Leo stood, along with the other alphas in the room. As pack alpha, River had the right to kill Stone for such an insult, and Leo found himself almost hoping River would. He got the feeling Stone’s mates felt similarly.

Wet Heat by R.D. Hero

Wet HeatWet Heat by R.D. Hero

Released June 20, 2016

Published by Riptide Publishing

Page count: 107 pages

Blurb:

Most omega werewolves want a mate and pups, but Lee Aung prefers an unconventional party-boy lifestyle. Yet at forty-two, he’s stopped going into heat, which means he’s expired goods—no longer a fertile, young omega that alpha wolves drool over. So Lee uses Wet Heat, a synthetic pheromone, to reel in the alpha hookups.

After losing his job at the bank, Lee can’t afford to keep up his Wet Heat habit. His solution: scam free samples by pretending to be a happily mated test subject at Wet Heat headquarters. There, Lee spends two years being interviewed by the reserved alpha scientist, Cain, who at thirty-two is unmated and—up until this point—content with that.

Cain never really felt his alpha instincts, nor took part in the usual alpha/beta/omega social dynamics. But after discovering that Lee has been lying about his unmated status for two years, Cain finally admits that for the first time, he wants to court an omega. Unfortunately, he’s picked the one omega who doesn’t want to be courted.

Our thoughts:

Lee is a 40-something year old Omega that loves to play the field. He refused to settle down and mate with an Alpha or Beta in his prime. Now, the pheromones that attract potential hook-ups to him have stopped being produced, forcing Lee to use the synthetically produced Wet Heat.

Always one to party and becoming more addicted to the game, Lee loses his job and now moves about in an effort to score Wet Heat for free. He steals samples from perfume counters, stalks the free samples at grocery stores, and even entered a trial for free Wet Heat vials. The trial was for married Omegas, so Lee just makes up a story and continues it for two years.

Cain is the person Lee has to tell his fake stories to. Lee is sure that Cain is an Alpha, but he can never get him to break his stoic demeanor in all the time they’ve been doing this song and dance. That soon changes when Cain finally has a chance to meet Lee in a private setting. His nature is so different from most Alphas that Lee is thrown, causing Lee’s natural Omega tendencies to emerge.

The cat and mouse game Cain and Lee play was fascinating and entertaining. How does a calm Alpha who’s never played the field catch an Omega that doesn’t want to be tamed? By playing the game just enough to keep the Omega playing the game and feeling like he’s winning.

Throw in an interesting plot twist with a potential poisoning and another Alpha doing some seriously devious business with Wet Heat and we have a story that piques all interests. If you like Alpha, Beta and Omega stories, this one is a must read. Its uniqueness sets it apart, the wolves break the rules of most Alpha/Beta/Omega novels. Very refreshing.

RATING: BAD ASS BOOTS!!
