Three’s a disaster when things come unraveled.

Rock star Nate Keller is on top of the world, but his headlining tour has one drawback. It keeps him away from his boyfriends, Theo and Cameron, for weeks at a time. Yet after four-and-a-half years—and a lot of hard work—the trio is still going strong.

But then Cam comes to visit with devastating news. After seventeen years together, he and Theo have agreed to a trial separation. Nate tries desperately to fix his lovers’ broken relationship, but there’s only so much he can do from the road.

At home, Cam tries to carry on, but feels like his whole life is spiraling out of control. Theo struggles to cope with the split as his depression worsens. They’re both spinning their wheels, quickly losing hope they can keep it together—and keep the man they both still love.

Desperate, Nate drops everything in a last-ditch attempt to pull their trio back together before they hit rock bottom. Except their love could already be shattered beyond repair.

Warning: Contains two men who must face how broken they are before they can fix their failing marriage, and the man who loves them both—but doesn’t know how to save them.

Our Thoughts:

I’m not usually one to grab a book with mènage, but something about Hiatus‘ synopsis sang to me. I went for it and I’m glad I did! It’s one of the few mènage stories that actually felt real to me. I could believe these three as a unit whereas usually that’s not the case.

Hiatus was a difficult novel to read because it isn’t rainbows and cupcakes and joy, joy, joy. The content is laden with conflict, separation and imminent divorce. Cam and Theo have been together for 17 years, but they both have issues that have caused too much conflict. It weighs heavily and eventually drives them to a trial separation.

Another problem is that they have a lover, Nate, of 6 years and now he’s stuck in the middle. It really felt like he was the child of a divorced couple. Seeing each of them separately. Everyone trying not to be jealous. It was just sad and stressful. But Nate, no matter how torn apart by what has happened, is determined to work towards getting Cam and Theo back together.

That’s great in theory, but the task is more draining and difficult than Nate could have ever imagined. It takes Nate leaving, Cam reaching his breaking point, and Theo truly flying apart for them to gravitate back to each other.

Basically, Cam and Theo have real life debilitating issues that came to be unmanageable thanks to stressful jobs and the market crash. That huge event in their lives put them on a runaway train towards anxiety disorder and depression. Two issues left untreated and not shared. They became the biggest obstacles between them and now they not only have to accept their problems but overcome them in order to be together.

Hiatus is sad and draining at times but then again, so if real life. If you like a bit of realness in your books this is a perfect read. If you want only happiness and roses, this probably won’t satisfy you. The chemistry between the guys is really intense and totally off the charts so if you can get through the tough times to the hot ones, it’s worth it to see the passion and love they share.

EXCERPT:

He handed her a bottle of juice and searched the take-out bag for a breakfast sandwich. “Why are you still dressed?” he asked. “I thought you were going to be my plate.”

She held up one finger, stuffing the last bite of her sausage and biscuit into her mouth, and then opened her juice to take a long drink.

She fished the money he’d given her out of her pocket and handed it to him. “I owe you a hundred and twenty bucks,” she said. He tossed the money onto the dresser.

“Myr, you really don’t have to pay me back.”

“Why not? You don’t think I can afford to?”

He’d never seen her angry before. He liked the way her eyes narrowed and her nostrils flared.

“I don’t know,” he teased. “You’re a teacher. You don’t make much money, do you?”

Her mouth fell open in disbelief. “I can’t believe you just said that.”

“Are you going to hit me?” he asked hopefully.

“You’d like that, wouldn’t you, naughty boy.”

His eyes dropped to her waist. “Will you use your belt?”

“I thought Jace was the one with the masochism fetish.”

He glanced up at her, surprised. “How do you know that?”

“Groupies talk.”

“Do they? And what do they say about me?”

She chuckled. “That you’re a boring, one-woman man.”

He winced.

“I only agree with that second part,” she added.

“So I’m not boring?”

“I’m not sure. I’ve always been the skeptical type and I can be hard to convince without lots of evidence.”

He raised an eyebrow at her. “I see. So I need to prove I’m exciting.”

“I think that would be for the best.”

He looked down at the sandwich in his hand. “Can I eat first?”

“Please do.” She took another long drink of her juice and set it down on the dresser.

She removed her shoes and belt. Jace’s jeans slid down low on her hips. She unbuttoned the fly and let them fall to the floor. She tugged off Brian’s borrowed T-shirt. He should wear that one on stage tonight to keep her close.

“Do I need to be completely naked to be your plate?” she asked.

He realized he was holding his sandwich in front of his open mouth, but hadn’t taken a bite.

“Yeah. I’ve never seen a plate in underwear before.”

She unfastened her bra and tossed it aside. She pushed her breasts up with her hands. “You know these things used to be perkier.” She looked down at the twin globes of flesh spilling from her palms.

He didn’t understand why, but by not trying to act seductive, she was actually turning him on more. “They’re perfect.”

Her panties joined her jeans on the floor. She glanced over her shoulder, straining her neck to try to see her butt. “I think my ass used to be perkier, too.”

Brian bit into his sandwich, chewing slowly.

“Gravity is a woman’s worst enemy.” She looked up at him uncertainly.

He swallowed. “You’re beautiful, Myrna.”

“Does it bother you that I’m older than you are?”

“Yeah, like, what, six months older?”

“I’m thirty-five.”

He hadn’t expected her to be seven years older than him, but frankly, he didn’t care how old she was. She was the sexiest woman he’d ever met. “You’re in your sexual prime, Myrna. And trust me, that doesn’t bother me at all.”

“You could have any hot young woman you want—”

“Where’s this coming from?”

“Oh my God! Oh my God! It’s Master Sinclair!” Myrna squealed and trembled from head to foot with excitement. “Oh my God! Will you sign my tits? Please. Please. You’re soooo hot!”

He tossed his sandwich aside, grabbed a handful of ketchup packets from the take-out bag, and tackled her to the bed. He straddled her hips to hold her down.

“Certainly, I’ll sign your tits, miss. Anything for a fan.” He opened a ketchup packet with his teeth. She laughed uncontrollably, squirming beneath him. “Hold still.”

She stopped squirming and looked up at him, her hazel eyes wide. He began to write across her chest in ketchup.

“P-R,” he spelled aloud. “O-P.” He tossed the empty packet on the floor and reached for another.

“Prop?”

“I’m not finished.”

“That tickles.” She giggled.

“E-R-T-Y.”

“What are you writing?”

He opened another packet and wrote in the middle of her belly. “O-F.” He moved to her lower belly. “B-R.”

“Property of brrrrrrr?”

“Yeah, property of brrrrr. Exactly.” He opened another packet of ketchup and finished his name on her belly. “Perfect. Property of Brian. I just need to dot this i.”

He dabbed a dot of ketchup in the center of her nipple. “Damn, I missed.”

He lowered his head and licked the misplaced ketchup off. She laughed, her fingers stealing into his hair.

“Let me try that again.” He dripped ketchup on her other nipple. “Damn my terrible aim.”

He sucked the tangy ketchup from her nipple, loving the way the rosy peak hardened against his tongue. He stroked the bud vigorously with the center of his tongue until she shuddered and made that maddeningly sexy sound in the back of her throat. His cock hardened instantly.

He was done for. Again.

He lifted his head and dribbled ketchup on her lower lip. Her tongue darted out between her lips.

“Hold it. It’s my mess. Only fair that I clean it up.” He leaned over her and kissed her deeply.

Her lips tasted spicy, like sausage. Which reminded him. He hadn’t finished his breakfast. He broke away from her hungry kiss and looked down at her. “Do you want some hash browns?”

She chuckled. “You know what I want, Brian.”

“Hash browns.” He climbed from the bed and retrieved the bag of food from the surface of the dresser.

“I think maybe you are boring,” she teased, watching him from the bed.

He glanced at her, liking the way “Property of Brian” looked written across her body. He wondered if he could talk her into getting a tattoo to make his claim permanent. Climbing back onto the bed with her, he covered the ketchup with chains of small potato rounds. When he had them spread to his satisfaction, he lowered his head and licked one off her body.

“Yeah, hash browns are definitely boring,” he said.

She grinned at him. “I think I like being your plate.”

He chewed and swallowed his ketchup-coated hash brown. “You don’t mind the mess?”

“I assume you’re going to clean up after yourself.”

“You have a lot of faith in my self-control.”

She traced the angle of his jaw with her finger. “I do. I bet you can resist making love to me for at least ten minutes.”

He licked another hash brown off her chest. “You have a lot more faith in me than I do.” He plucked a hash brown from her chest and popped it in her mouth before slurping several more into his mouth. Ten minutes? He wished he was buried inside her right now. He fed her several hash browns in quick succession and made a pig of himself by eating as fast as he could. Eagerness had gotten the better of him.

She giggled as he licked the food off her belly. “I guess you are hungry.”

“Starving!”

After they finished the hash browns, Brian lapped the remaining ketchup from her silky skin with broad strokes of his tongue. She shuddered beneath him and tugged at his hair.

“You’re driving me crazy,” she gasped, her head tossed back, her back arched.

We’re getting the band back together.

Those five words send a chill down Miki St. John’s spine, especially when they’re spoken with a nearly religious fervor by his brother-in-all-but-blood, Damien Mitchell. However, those words were nothing compared to what Damien says next.

And we’re going on tour.

When Crossroads Gin hits the road, Damien hopes it will draw them closer together. There’s something magical about being on tour, especially when traveling in a van with no roadies, managers, or lovers to act as a buffer. The band is already close, but Damien knows they can be more—brothers of sorts, bound not only by familial ties but by their intense love for music.

As they travel from gig to gig, the band is haunted by past mistakes and personal demons, but they forge on. For Miki, Damie, Forest, and Rafe, the stage is where they all truly come alive, and the music they play is as important to them as the air they breathe.

But those demons and troubles won’t leave them alone, and with every mile under their belts, the band faces its greatest challenge—overcoming their deepest flaws and not killing one another along the way.

Our thoughts:

Crossroads Gin is going on tour. Miki, Damien, Forest, and Rafe are hitting some of the dive bars and run down stages in towns across the US. Damien wants the newly formed band to really connect and this seems the best way to do so. Along the way we get to experience what is still haunting each man as he tries to make music, build friendships, and deal with being away from his lover.

I absolutely loved this book. I felt like it was a compilation of little shorts from each band member. We see Rafe fighting the demons of addiction and how much Quinn still keeps him centered. The irony of Quinn needing medication to stay focused and to feel like the world isn’t crushing him. On the flip side, Rafe craves meds for an entirely different reason–desire and addiction.

Forest and Connor are just so stinking cute together. Also, fierce and extremely hot. Molten hot. Forest and Connor have a big secret and it’s just perfection. They’re very secure in their relationship and seem to handle this road tour quite well.

Damien seems so strong and totally in his element. It isn’t until tragedy strikes the band again that we see him falter. As always, his Sionn is there to help Damien work things out and accept what he cannot change– his past. Damien’s meltdown helps us understand why he wanted this tour to go down the way it did, small tour van, roach motels, gas station hot dogs, and small venues.

The biggest troubles always seem to find Miki. The guy just can’t catch a break. He’s attacked twice and after a third freak accident we see him totally lose his grip. Kane, and even Donal, is there to show him he is loved, cherished, and cared for. Miki is so afraid he will lose what he has. The fear that everything good has always been pulled out from under him can’t be shaken. Kane and Damien realize that Miki has too much locked inside and it might be time to talk it out with someone who can help him. Of all the guys, Miki is the one who still grabs my heart and holds on with an iron fist. His life has been so hard and tragic. He’s endured so much pain and suffering, I just want to see him happy and settled. Maybe that will happen with Kane and the whole clan, but it seems something else just might shake the stable ground beneath Miki’s feet.

The Sinners series is by far one of the best! Rhys Ford is a talented author and I’m always enamored by her stories, happy to know the men she creates, and experience the love and pain they endure.

Neither Aubrey nor Bryan is ready to come out, and their relationship needs to remain a carefully guarded secret. In addition, Aubrey has to answer to the demands of his profession and Bryan has to traverse the shifting waters between his personal and business relationship with his famous lover.
Then a secret is revealed and everything in their joint world implodes. Early response to Rockin’ it Forever…

“This book has it all: rocker musicians, incredible sexual chemistry, struggles with being in the closet, doubts regarding the relationship, intense feelings, and the amazing HEA with a forever kind of love.”

Excerpt from Rockin’ it Forever…

Aubrey barked out an easy laugh and Bryan joined in. Once they’d gotten a hold of themselves, Bryan spoke up again.

“This is probably going to sound really stupid, but I have to ask.”

“Ask me whatever you want, Bry. I don’t want you to think I’ll mock you in any way. I get it, man. This is all new. Unexpected. You didn’t sign up for it and I guess…”

Bryan waited, but it seemed as if Aubrey might not continue. “You guess?”

“Aw, man. I suppose if I want you to feel free to say anything, I should give you the same respect. Like we said before—no games, no bullshit. Right?”

“Absolutely.”

“Well, I’m worried I pushed you too fast. I’m not gonna lie. I wanted you before I met you, I… Shit.” Aubrey mumbled something unintelligible. “Fuck. We should wait to have this conversation in person.”

Bryan swallowed down the fear of what Aubrey might be about to reveal. “Come on, Aubrey. You’ve already brought it up and it’ll be at least a couple days before we can talk face to face.”

“Oh hey, that’s right. When are you—?”

“Aubrey. What conversation?”

Aubrey let out a slight groan on the other end. It didn’t sound happy. “Please, Bry. Please don’t be angry. I care about you. I believe in you as a writer. I wouldn’t want anyone else to do my memoir—I’d rather not do it at all if that were the case. This isn’t just about sex. For real, no games.”

“That’s… That’s all wonderful. But I don’t see how that would make me angry.”

What amounted to a small, strangled noise could be heard from Aubrey. “I only decided to do the memoir so I could have the chance to meet you.”

Aubrey’s confession was like a rock that had landed in the pit of Bryan’s stomach. “You… You what?” He breathed in through his nose a few times, his heart pounding at the thought he’d been played by the master player.

“Bry, baby, please listen. Think about it. I couldn’t very well call you up and ask you out on a date. I had no idea if you were gay or straight, or open to the possibility of exploring or if we’d click… Anyway, I wasn’t about to send you an email inquiring if you’d ever considered whether your sexual options should include cock.” Aubrey mumbled a ‘fuck’ under his breath. “Do you know how difficult it is to meet a decent guy in my position? Someone who I might actually have a real connection with, who might ‘get’ me?” Aubrey’s voice had risen in pitch. He paused, then sighed before speaking again. “I’m a public figure. I’m in the closet. The men I meet only want to put their dick into a celebrity or they want an out and proud partner. The few others who might be prospects are usually a part of the circle I’ve always traveled in—sanctioned members of the wretched institution we call the music business.

“I don’t like the industry. I hate the corporate machine. Does that mean I’m biting the hand that feeds me? Probably. But I can’t help it. I came back to the music biz because I decided I had more I wanted to say. I don’t need the cash. The adoration is great, as long as it’s from a place of sincerity, from a love of the tunes. But I don’t need that mindless hero worship I once had.”

Aubrey lowered his voice, spoke with a pleading tone that gripped Bryan’s heart. “I need real. A genuine bond. A future with the possibility of love. Everything I said to you before was the absolute fucking truth, Bry. I’ve been looking for someone who speaks the only language I understand, the language of music. When I asked you if you might be that someone, I said it from my heart. Yeah. I orchestrated our meeting and I’m damn glad I did. Because you’re the best person I’ve come across since I can remember and I’ll do anything to be worthy of you.”

M/M Erotic Romance author Morticia Knight enjoys hot stories of men loving men forever after. They can be men in uniform, Doms and subs, rock stars or bikers – but they’re all searching for the one (or two!) who was meant only for them.

When not indulging in her passion for books, she loves the outdoors, film and music. Once upon a time she was the singer in an indie rock band that toured the West Coast and charted on U.S. college radio. She is currently working on more installments of Sin City Uniforms and The Hampton Road Club, as well as the follow-up to Bryan and Aubrey’s story from Rockin’ the Alternative.
