SPOTLIGHT BLITZ: The Love of Wicked Men by Brandon Shire

Wicked Men Blitz Banner

We welcome one of our favorite authors to 3 Chicks After Dark today, the Brandon Shire! A few months ago, Brandon decided he would write a serial and let his fans and devoted readers have a say in how the story would develop. A truly unique approach that resulted in the fabulous first season of The Love of Wicked Men. Today, we are pleased to shine a bright spotlight on the box set release of The Love of Wicked Men.

A note from Brandon:

First, let me say thanks for hosting the Wicked Men blog tour. The creation of this lengthy novel was quite an adventure. Throughout the course of writing each episode, readers were offered the opportunity to give their input and suggestions on how they thought the story should move along. And I threw in a few twists and surprises along the way, just to keep them on their toes. The Wicked Men blitz features seven unique excerpts, so don’t miss any. And don’t forget to enter the giveaway!

Sid Rivers and Jack Brown are two sides of the same coin. One is a lawyer with his own firm and dreams of money and power; the other is a criminal with a lengthy record and a quest for vengeance. When they meet, sparks fly. But was their meeting an accident? Or was it planned by the billionaires who want to control their destiny?

The Love of Wicked Men is an erotic journey into the underbelly of the legal profession, the corporate culture of profit-at-any-cost, and the secret world of industrial espionage.

Jack’s phone beeped while he was driving. He glanced at it and closed his eyes. “Fuck!” he screamed. It was the text he feared more than any other. 9999. It meant the team had to drop everything and flee.

Pulling in a breath to calm himself, he pulled over and dialed Lori’s number. “What happened?”

“The FBI is in Rivers’ office asking about you by name. They mentioned Wessman too. This op is done, Jack.” She paused, quieting her voice. “I’m sorry.”

Despite their disagreements, he knew Lori was sincere. He called Sweeny next, wanting to know exactly what happened. But there was no answer. He hadn’t expected one. Protocol dictated they cease all communication immediately. In two weeks, they’d log onto Pastebin and leave cryptic confirmations of their safe flight from justice. In two months, they’d leave another if they deemed the coast clear enough for them to move on to the next job.

The code meant he couldn’t return to the apartment to get his stuff. Everything was to be left behind, including the potential to find Rachel’s killer. “No,” he whispered to himself as he shook his head with determination. “Not this time.” He’d go back and set up surveillance on his own. If the Feds actually were onto him, he’d leave. But if not, he didn’t plan on going anywhere until he had answers.

His phone rang again and he looked at it in surprise. “Yeah?”

“Where you at?” Drake asked.

The question made him pause. Drake would never give him up, but after a dispersal text, it didn’t sit right. “On the road,” he answered vaguely.

“We’ve got a problem.”

“What is it?”

“Sweeny’s missing.”

“He’s gone like you should be.”

“I’m at his hidey-hole right now. The place is wrecked and Sweeny’s gone. He would’ve taken his toys with him.”

“No. They’d still be tagging evidence. He’s been snatched by someone.”

“I’m on my way.” Jack tossed the phone on the passenger’s seat and swung the car around in the middle of traffic. Horns blared, but he paid no attention. He grabbed his phone, once he righted the car, and dialed Lori. “Sweeny’s been taken.”

“Taken?” Lori repeated in shock. “By who?”

“I don’t know. Did he set up the backup feeds for the perimeter cameras? Maybe we can find out.” One of Sweeny’s habits was setting up a relay that periodically downloaded all their security feeds to Lori’s private server.

“Let me reassemble my equipment. I’ll get back to you.”

“Can you get somewhere safe first?” Jack asked.

“Let me handle this,” Lori answered in a huff and clicked off.

He tossed the phone back to the passenger seat and floored the accelerator.

Meet the Author:

Great stories should not depend on gender or sexual preference of a character, but instead upon the strength of the characters and the honesty and urgency of the story.

Brandon Shire proves he understands the complexity of writing LGBT fiction from two very different viewpoints – serious and smexy. His serious fiction is written for those who enjoy a book, which explores life’s darker elements in a more literary form, while the smexy fiction is for those who enjoy a graphically erotic romance.

Regardless of the differentiation above, Brandon writes for people who enjoy being challenged, and for those who strive to understand situations they don’t typically encounter. He pens raw, emotional stories about characters, which readers will either love or love to hate.

Life and love are pretty damned special, but neither is always perfect. Life can be painful, and real love hard to find. Brandon’s fiction is an exploration of the (sometimes) arduous search for the happiness we all desire.

Troy Bronson, a twenty-two-year-old whose football career vanished after a knee injury, is in dire straits. He chooses a hot twink for his first appearance, but there’s a burly stagehand in the studio when he arrives and he just can’t pull his eyes away.

Our thoughts:

Holy Hades! Erotic short? Yes, yes it is! A short story based on a guy going into a gay-for-pay porn studio for some extra cash is bound to be one big sex scene!

Troy is down on his luck, kicked out of his home and living in his truck. He’s built like a brick house. Muscles galore and the fine football physique their site fans will go crazy over. Brandon, the studio owner, can’t resist taking Troy in and contracting for a shoot.

Troy is apprehensive and unsure of who he wants to do a scene with and what he’s willing to do on camera. Of course in the heat of the moment nothing is written in stone. Troy takes the scene on and gives so much more than expected, no one will be unaffected during filming. Once Troy becomes comfortable it seems his hard ‘no’ turns into a quick yes and he just might have a few more surprises for everyone on set.

This short was pure sexual tension. Nothing held back, just raw need, lust, sexual pleasure and the need to get off. A win of a short story to turn a blah day into a hot thrill.

Our Thoughts:

I’m feeling exhilarated and sad at the same time. The exhilaration comes from finishing the final episode of The Love of Wicked Men but the sadness is from it being over. Or is it?!

I marvel at how Brandon Shire can pull out more intrigue, more suspense, more corruption. Yet, each episode of The Love of Wicked Men serial has been packed with just that. This final episode wraps-up the game that has been unfolding from the beginning. All the cards are on the table and now retribution must be made.

Jack is out for revenge and it is high time he had his moment. He’s been kicked and hurt but still managed to keep a level head and follow through with an unnerving level of intenisty. After almost losing sight of the end goal earlier on, he is nothing but focused in the end. The brutality of his final redemption is nothing short of appropriate considering his hurt and years of searching. Very well-played all around.

With so much corruption, greed and back-stabbing, Drake and Sweeney are once again a sweet spot. After the last episode when they finally realize their feelings for each other, we get a bit of a continuation of that newly budding concern. Drake, the tough, dangerous man just melts for fidgety, nerdy Sweeney. Sigh. Love it!

Be prepared for more bombshells and twists in this episode, as everything culminates toward the finished goal, there is never a moment of prediction or over-played plot points. Brandon Shire has surprise mastered and we definitely reaped the benefits of that throughout this serial, especially in episode six. A satisfying ending that’s not picture perfect but leaves just enough open for smirking curiosity and happy feelings.

There’s been a hint of a possible second season but that all depends on the readers. As with this whole series, Brandon Shire is asking his readers for input on a potential second season. *insert loud squee here* If you demand more thrilling suspense for wicked men who walk the line between lawful and criminal, be sure to visit the Goodreads group and let it be shouted from the strokes of your keyboard!

Our thoughts:

Heart pounding action in this episode of The Love of Wicked Men! The twists and turns keep on as well as the deceit. It’s hard to know who is being played and what side people are on. If you love the thrill of suspense and the intrigue of a well-played game of corporate greed, this series won’t disappoint.

Jack and his team are trying to stay one step ahead of Sid and Marn but they are finding themselves compromised at every turn. Ghosts from the past, along with the intense desire to finally get a lead on who made the call to destroy his sister is breaking Jack down. The level of desperation is becoming apparent and Jack needs Sid more now than ever before. Jack is so close to new information, it’s causing him to get sloppy with regard to his job. That’s endangering the whole team. When they have to scatter, things go from bad to worse.

Sid had a rough go in the episode. After his ass-kicking from Hunter at the dojo, Sid is taken by the security company Marn hired. None other than the hot-headed, ex-military man who has a past with Jack. Once Jack’s name is mentioned, the situation escalates. That’s when Sid makes the connection that Jack has played him all along.

Larry grows a pair in this episode and actually tells Sid he’s going to destroy him and take the firm! If Sid could shoot daggers from his eyes, I think Larry would have bled out from multiple puncture wounds. I love the tension and hatred between these two. It’s obvious Sid always despised Larry and only went into practice with him because Larry was his exact opposite, safe and conservative in his approach.

There’s so much going on in this episode, a true thriller from the first to the last page.  With all the surprises and reveals, I can’t wait to see how it all wraps up in the next and final episode.
