The men of Kiss of Leather celebrate a beginning, but will the price be another ending?

The grand opening of Kiss of Leather draws near and the pressure is on to make sure everything is completed in time. Master Josh is a perfectionist, so no detail is too small in order to enhance the quality of the prestigious club they’ve all worked so tirelessly on. Unfortunately, the endless demands on Josh’s time have caused him to forget the more important things in life.

David’s love for Master Josh is overpowering at times, but lately, that love has been constantly tested. How can a sub in a fulltime D/s relationship serve a Master who’s never there? As things continue to deteriorate between him and Josh, David wonders if maybe his Master has tired of having to care for a sub full time.

By the time the grand opening arrives, Josh and David seem to have worked out their differences and David is hopeful for their future. The emotional collaring ceremony between Gavin and Kyle is a beautiful reminder of the power of love. But when an unexpected party crasher intrudes on the evening’s festivities, the men are reminded that there are still too many unanswered questions related to Corey’s kidnapping.

More than ever, the men of Kiss of Leather need to stand strong together. Will Josh and David be able to do the same?

Our thoughts:

The grand opening for Kiss of Leather is almost here and everyone’s stressed at the club. Kyle is trying to finish up his designs while also stressing over the upcoming collaring ceremony for him and Gavin. Derek is still in a rage over the kidnapping of Corey. Corey has been through so much with the prior abuse,  Derek is in overprotective mode to keep his boy safe. Stone has his hands full with his cheeky sub Mitchell, but Mitchell’s progress has been immense.

That just leaves David and Josh. The long time collard couple has it all figured out, right? Wrong. Josh is focusing all his time on the upcoming opening that he’s neglecting his sub. Even after a few eye-opening moments he continues to fall short. What an emotional time for David. My heart ached for his grief. For his loneliness and feelings of inadequacy. For his thoughts that he wasn’t needed and feeling abandoned. Josh fails hard and it’s a long tough road to get back to where they should have been all along.

Another stellar installment in the Kiss of Leather series. I’m always waiting for more from this series. I love these guys so hard!

However, several events shake his normally unflappable self–assurance.

Our thoughts:

Joseph Lance Tonlet, the master of the word! He brings us another intricate story for the Tease and Denial series. In Wes’ Denial, we go back and explore Wes’ past and also his present. For every scene with Wes and Grif, there is a scene from the past. We have Wes in high school, as he’s exploring his sexuality and his desire to dominate. We also get to explore Wes the Marine. In the Marine Corps he gets a real taste for the need to hurt while dominating and it scares him. He has to figure out a way to control himself to keep the person he’s playing with safe. That’s when we’re introduced to Thomas and Henrik.

Tonlet has a way of weaving a story so that we’re hanging on every word, every page, as we keep turning to find out more. I really like Wes and Grif together. They have quite the dynamic. Grif’s insecurities and his strength of character are ever-present during their vanilla and chocolate play. Wes has a way of controlling every situation, dominating Grif, but also being completely respectful of the boundaries set. In between all of the domination and submission and the play/games, we actually have a true love story between Grif and Wes. Wes is always needing to reassure and console Grif that he will stay with him as he is very insecure in the fact that  Wes will truly be around forever.

Wes has two big secrets that he’s keeping from Grif. They’ve impacted what he will and won’t do with Grif in scene or chocolate. Those secrets rear themselves during the flashbacks. That how he discloses to Grif. But, we get the actually reliving. It’s intense and yet gives great insight into Wes and his mindset.

Grif is remarkable. In the end his strength is the ultimate and his love, deep. Tonlet leaves us shredded but it was a lovely end to a true lifelong romance.

Goodreads Synopsis: Despite the carefully-worded agreement meant to keep their relationship strictly professional while Kate explored BDSM for an article in her college’s newspaper, Drake and Kate broke their own rules and fell in love.

Now, in the weeks before they leave for Africa, Drake takes Kate more deeply into the D/s lifestyle. In the process, the walls between them continue to crumble as they explore each other physically and emotionally and they fall even more deeply in love. But before they can even leave Manhattan, the past returns unexpectedly to challenge their blossoming relationship.

Is Kate and Drake’s commitment to each other strong enough to stand the test?

My Thoughts: This picked up right where “The Agreement” ended. This, for me, was a stereotypical “middle” book of a trilogy. It lacked a pulse…or something to propel the story.  The sex has taken on a decidedly vanilla flavor, not that there was very much of it, or that it was anywhere near as HOT as it was in the first book.  We hashed out the same disagreements two and three times within the book.

The only thing I did appreciate was finding out more about Drake’s life prior to Kate. We learned a lot about his previous marriage and it became a major plot point in this book. Once that was resolved there was the requisite HUGE blow-up followed by the equally huge romantic gesture and that’s where it ended.

I will read the next book in the series, but frankly am not holding out much hope for it.  I suspect is will be even more vanilla and the D/s portion of Drake’s life, which up until this book had been a driving force, will disappear all together. But I guess we will just have to wait and see.

Once A Brat by Kim Dare

Bret is new on the BDSM scene, and he sets his sights on experienced Dom, Marcus.  While Marcus is able to ignore his attention at first, eventually his curiosity about the handsome, self-professed submissive gets the best of him. Marcus decides to give in and have a scene with  Bret at the local club. That is only the beginning of their relationship, and I don’t know if either one suspects where it will take them.

Rarely do I have a chance to read a story where the Dom/sub interaction is the basis for a relationship; typically it’s just one facet of the main characters’ interaction with each other. I wasn’t sure I’d find it a believable way for two people to fall in love, but this book proved me wrong. At first it seems that Marcus sets out to teach Bret a lesson about being a true sub, but Bret’s sassy, bratty, unusual sub behavior affects Marcus in ways he doesn’t expect. From there the hot, steamy scenes between them keep you turning pages.

I appreciate how Kim Dare manages to create a submissive character that isn’t full of insecurity and self-loathing. Bret is a strong, confident man who happens to have a kink for submitting to others, not because he doesn’t think he’s worth loving. Is this what draws Marcus to him? I think it’s definitely part of it. The chemistry between the two is definitely there, and you get a sense of their growing bond as they explore each scene together.

This Valentine’s centered story is the 1st in the Kinky Cupid universe. It appears that Bret is the Kinky Cupid, so I’m hoping this means plenty more of him to come. Keep on eye on this page at Riptide Publishing for new stories as they’re released.
