Blurb:

Thanks to an abusive father and a string of bad relationships, Riley McCage learned the hard way that people are not kind without a reason. Now, after landing a job at popular gay bar Pot O Gold, Riley is on the right track–until the night Boxer finds him drunk and drugged in the back room of an exclusive sex party.

Donald “Boxer” Boxwood wasn’t looking for anything beyond some casual kink until he peeled Riley off the floor and gave him a safe place to stay. But there’s something compelling about the guy crashing on his couch, and the two forge an instant friendship that eases into unmistakable attraction. Despite Riley’s hesitancy, Boxer knows one thing to be true: he needs Riley in his life.

Riley risked everything to run away and build a new life for himself, and his secrets aren’t something he’d ever wish upon his kind, gentle new friend. But when the past comes to call, he’ll have no choice but to put his trust in Boxer…and believe people can change enough to deserve a second chance.

Our thoughts:

Another book in the Restoration series! I always enjoy AM Arthur’s series because she takes a few friends, who are more like family, and leads us through each of their hopes, fears, longings and loves. We really get to know each and every one of them by the series end. It’s fulfilling and extremely rewarding as a reader. The Restoration series skirts the Belonging Series as Donner from Belonging works at The Pot of Gold with Riley. That’s the link, but really Restoration is about James, Nathan, Riley, Boxer, and Elliott (so far). Of course there are other friends in the picture but these guys are a more close-knit family than friends.

When Riley gets into a compromising position, Boxer saves the day. With that comes the start of a beautiful friendship. I know it sounds cheesy, but it’s true! Boxer is just an all around good guy. He knows what it’s like to live in hard times. He cherishes his friends and the little bit of family he has; he’d do anything for them. When Riley is in need of a place to stay for two weeks, Boxer offers.

Riley can’t help but feel interested and scared around Boxer, all at once. He’s attracted to Boxer but his size is intimidating. In his past, nothing good has come from being around a muscle-bound guy. They usually are most efficient at whooping Riley’s backside. What Riley knows is that Boxer is upfront, honest and genuinely kind. How could he not fall for him? Riley doubts so much because of his preconceived notions and also because of his lack of self-esteem.

Boxer’s confession of a particular kink is just the thing to turn Riley around. By indulging Boxer, Riley finds a new strength he never knew he had. With that comes confidence and a bit of bravery. These two are skirting around the inevitable, they’re falling hard for each other.

As with all AM Arthur books, the guys have baggage. Their pasts are a bit broken and colored with bad things. Alcohol. Drugs. Abuse. Crazy family members. Loss. They will need to stay open and communicating and not let their fears overcome them. If they push towards a common goal, Riley and Boxer just might find that their soul mate is right there for the taking.

I cannot recommend AM Arthur’s books enough. I’d be hard pressed to decide on one to recommend because I feel you should read them all! Finding Their Way is an emotionally charged journey that went too quickly; however, gripped hold and never let go the whole distance.

In this follow-up to Never Too Early: The Beginning, the first book in the Cowboy/Firefighter series, the two couples are reunited in their mutual concern for Jake. But how far will that concern go?

A strong friendship begins to explore the boundaries of something else; something all four men never looked for or expected. Emotions and attraction are difficult to deny, try as they might, but giving in has the potential to destroy everything both couples have worked so hard for. How will they handle something that none of them set out to find?

EXCERPT:

Jake reached out and touched the back of Chance’s hand. “Thank you for coming all this way to be with me. Thank you for coming to sit next to me, and for helping Tor. Thank you for everything you and Tucker have done around here, but mostly thank you for being someone I can count on.” Jake nodded firmly and looked up into Chance’s face, studying his eyes. “Thanks for caring so much.”

Chance’s gaze was steady and direct. “I didn’t mean to,” he said quietly. “I thought you were a good guy, that’s all. I thought you were nice and funny and smart and easy to talk to. I didn’t mean for there to be more than that.”

Jake nodded. “I know. We all know. But there is, and I’m okay with that. Thankful for it, really. And so is Tor. And Tucker sent me upstairs to talk to you, and said not to let you overthink it.” He smiled, trying not to shake with nerves. “So sit down here next to me and stop thinking.”

ABOUT THE AUTHORS:

CHRIS OWEN –  I live and write in eastern Canada.  I went to a bunch of schools, learned a lot of things, and now make stuff up because not to do so is unthinkable. I’m fond of fountain pens, Levenger’s Circa system, and Steampunk fashions. Lately I’ve been watching a lot of Discovery channel. I’ve seen every episode of CSI Las Vegas and New York, but I’m not terribly keen on CSI Miami. It might be due to weather envy. I have a crush on the whole cast of Criminal Minds, and fondness for wool. The two are not related. Hoarders keeps me honest. I’m inspired by the day to day minutia of life, and find beauty in the way words go together. I like texture and richness of experience. I’m not shy. I’m happy, I’m learning, I’m living.

Tory likes television, salted pistachios in the shell, and chenille socks. She dislikes cauliflower, not being able to find the right shoes in the morning, and not having enough free time. She shares her space with numerous pets, including but not limited to cats, dogs, and tortoises.
