ABOUT THE BOOK:

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000026_00023]

It’s the year 1802 in Avignon, France

Noah Capet has spent most of his young life living simple and unvaried days in the hushed countryside of southern France. Quiet, reserved, and diffident, his preference for existing is to do so in solitude, keeping to himself both in town and on his family’s farm—a predilection that’s altogether disrupted when a newcomer to town by the name of Jeremie Perreault begins an unremitting quest to befriend him.

Jeremie is everything Noah is not. Charismatic and gregarious, he leaves a trail of charmed admirers in his wake wherever he goes. Expressive and idealistic, he talks without end about his deep love for old books and his spirited dream to one day travel the world on a literary pilgrimage.

Over the course of a single summer, the two form an unlikely friendship, but just as quickly as it develops, it soon entirely dissolves as they’re forced to face the truth of what has unexpectedly emerged between them.

Lavender in Bloom is a tender and tragic coming-of-age story about first love and self-discovery, and a poignant reminder that time is fleeting and always takes with it the choices we’re too afraid to make.

Publication Date: July 25th, 2016

GUEST POSTThe Lavender in Bloom Playlist:

I absolutely love music and its power to stir the heart and so deeply move us. Creating a playlist for my books is one of my go-to strategies in my writer’s toolbox because listening to that playlist is the easiest way for me to get into the mood of a scene or the headspace of a particular character. Below, check out the tracks that made it onto the playlist for Lavender in Bloom, along with commentary on why each song’s so perfect for the story.

You can listen to the entire playlist for Lavender in Bloom here.

Frail Love by Cloves — This song was an absolute Godsend and I’m so glad I found it, as it ended up becoming the ‘theme song’ for Lavender in Bloom. Every last lyric was just perfect for Noah and Jeremie’s story. Especially these particular lines: I can’t live it like I’m living, I can’t live a lie, I’m giving up more than I should, forgive me for my frail love.

All I Want by Kodaline — For the longest time, this track was the theme song for Lavender in Bloom. I honestly couldn’t listen to it without getting teary-eyed, as it so perfectly captures the tragedy of Noah and Jeremie’s story. Favorite lines: When you said your last goodbye, I died a little bit inside and If you loved me, then why’d you leave me?

The Beautiful Ones by The Battle of Land and Sea — I love this song because, for one, it’s a break from the sad songs, but also because I feel it sets the mood for Noah’s life in the countryside. It has a very rural feel to it that makes me think of a simple and tranquil living.

Say Something by A Great Big World ft. Christina Aguilera — Another perfect song for Noah and Jeremie’s story. In fact, there’s a point in Lavender in Bloom where Jeremie outright tells Noah to just say the word, and he’ll be his. There’s also a point where they’re sort of at odds, waiting for the other to make the first move (or speak the first word, as it were), and this song really captures that. Favorite lines: Anywhere I would’ve followed you and I will swallow my pride: you’re the one that I love and I’m saying goodbye.

The Power of Love by Gabrielle Aplin — I included this song because it really captured the mood for a fable that’s featured in Lavender in Bloom. In fact, it’s a fable that describes how lavender first came into bloom in France. It’s based on an ‘alternate universe’ story featuring Noah and Jeremie, and it would be the perfect song for a montage of their love. Favorite line: The power of love, a force from above, cleaning my soul.

Make it Holy by The Staves — This is such a pretty song, and it’s perfect from Jeremie’s perspective. Favorite lines: I could make you want me, make you need me, make you mine. I could make it holy, make it special, make it right.

Forgetting by David Gray — Another sad song. From the very first chords, this song just sets the mood for a scene of heartbreak. It kind of has a nostalgic feel to it. Despite the title of the song, it’s the type of song that makes you remember times long past.

Ashes by Madi Diaz — This is another song I see as being from Jeremie’s perspective, especially toward the end of the book, when he asks Noah to make a certain decision. Favorite lines: Don’t you let me down and No, I won’t stand to keep watching you stay.

I Will Love You by Gin Wigmore — One of the few happy love song on the Lavender in Bloom playlist, and the only one with a more upbeat melody. As such, it’s very much treasured. This is a cute one, too. I love every single lyric, but my favorite lines are: If you die before I do, I know that heartache will kill me, too, so if I ever lived again, it would be to find you. It’s especially perfect because I can definitely see Noah and Jeremie as living many lives and finding each other in each one.

Tell Me How to Feel by Maggie Eckford — This song captures one of the main character’s thoughts in the wake of the book’s concluding actions, in which they just feel so blindsided, lost, and heartbroken.

Benediction by Luke Sital-Singh — This song has a sad vibe from the start, and it’s also one I picked because it instantly makes me think of the lavender fable and Noah and Jeremie’s ‘alternate universe’ story. Favorite lines: There’s a knock in the silence, I see death at the door, But I know we’ll be alright, ‘Cause your hands are still warm and I’m sorry we don’t have forever, but come die with me.

Hengilas by Jonsi — This song’s in another language (Icelandic!), but it has such an atmospheric quality to it that just draws you in. Favorite lines: We look into foreign eyes, yet we have always known each other. Perfect, because Jeremie has a line in Lavender in Bloom about Noah’s eyes feeling like home even from the moment he first looked into them.

We cannot contain how excited we are to be part of the final blog tour for the Collars & Cuffs series. KC Wells and Parker Williams have brought such diverse characters of depth that it’s sad to see this series come to an end. We celebrate this final book and bring a character interview from Jeff, whom we originally met in his and Damian’s book Damian’s Discipline (book five in the series).

An Interview with Jeff, Damian’s Discipline book 5.

What is your biggest fear?

Losing Damian’s love. You can NOT repeat this to anyone, okay? Damian’s…I don’t know how to describe it. I’ve gone to the club a few times with him, and I see how some of the other Doms are, all larger than life. Damian isn’t like that. Damian has a quiet strength. Even though the relationship we have isn’t a D/s one, the man has still given me the guidance I needed to become a better person than I am. Which, let’s be honest, really wasn’t difficult. I was kind of a shit. Still am, I suppose. But he loves me anyway.

What is your most prized possession?

I bet most people will say something big and extravagant, but not me. My most prized possession is a bronze colored sweater that Damian bought for me when I first moved in with him. I love it because it’s soft and warm, but what really makes it something I can’t bear to be apart from is despite my behavior and the numerous mistakes I made, Damian still bought it for me.

What do you enjoy doing on your day off?

I’m still working with Ron on woodworking. I’ve gotten to be pretty good, too, or so he says. I like making little things for Damian, but what I really want to do is make him a chest of drawers for his clothes. Something elegant and classy, like he is. Yeah, I know I sound like a sap in love, but maybe that’s because I am. :)

Your best childhood memory?

I don’t have a best childhood memory. Can we move on to the next question please?

Where do you hope to be in five years?

You know, I’m going to be honest…I never thought I’d have a future. I figured one day they’d find my body in the gutter, and I’d be buried in a plot with all the other people no one wanted to claim. But now? In five years I can see myself actually becoming someone. Ron says I’ve got the potential to be a woodworker, and I think to myself that maybe I can do this. I dream…it sounds stupid when I say it out loud…but I thought about opening a shop where people could come in and look at what I’ve made. The prices would be exorbitant, but they would know the quality was worth every penny.

When I first told Damian, I thought he’d laugh, but he got this look on his face, and started asking me what kind of shop I’d look at. He had a friend of his draw up some designs, and show them to me. A big picture window display would show off some of the things I’d worked on, and we’d constantly have to be cleaning the nose and fingerprints off the windows. The store would have natural lighting, and everything would gleam. There’d be so many sales, I’d have to hire someone to take care of the till, while I was in the back creating new things.

It’s years away, if it ever happens, but now that I can see that dream, I want it more than anything. And I think Damian wants it for me.

I love him.

Blurb:

In all his relationships, Darren Fielding never found the level of intimacy he witnessed between Thomas Williams and his sub, Peter, the day of Peter’s “rebirth.” Not only that, he never realized such intimacy was possible. For two years, Thomas’s business card has been burning a hole in his wallet. When Darren’s lover moves on, maybe it’s finally time to see where that card takes him.

Collars & Cuffs’s new barman, JJ Taylor, is really conflicted right now. He went to the club with a very specific purpose, already convinced of what he’d find there. Except it’s not what he expected at all. He certainly didn’t anticipate finding himself drawn to the new wannabe Dom. Nor could he have guessed the direction that attraction would lead him.

Old love, new love, vows, pain, rage, moving in, moving on…. The members of Collars & Cuffs face an event that touches some of them deeply, but it will only reinforce what they already know: together they are stronger, and some bonds cannot be broken.

Excerpt:

“Honey, I’m home.”

Alex laughed and came out of the kitchen to greet his husband. “We’ve talked about this, right? You do not walk into this apartment and talk to me like I’m the little wife.”

Leo kissed him soundly on the cheek. “Aw, but you’d look great in an apron, holding a glass of beer out for your weary, hard-working hubby.” He smirked. “And besides, no one in their right mind would call you little.”

Alex quirked his eyebrows. “One, you don’t drink beer, which is why there’s a glass of chilled chardonnay on the living room table, waiting for you. Two, excuse me—weary? Hard-working? You’ve been standing around in leather chaps and a harness, watching while guys do all manner of things to each other, which probably included a lot of fucking, because, hey, it’s Saturday night, right?”

Leo sighed happily. “What can I say? I love my job.”

Meet K.C. Wells:

Born and raised in the north-west of England, K.C. WELLS always loved writing. Words were important. Full stop. However, when childhood gave way to adulthood, the writing ceased, as life got in the way. K.C. discovered erotic fiction in 2009, when the purchase of a ménage storyline led to the startling discovery that reading about men in love was damn hot. In 2012, arriving at a really low point in life led to the desperate need to do something creative. An even bigger discovery waited in the wings—writing about men in love was even hotter….

K.C. now writes full-time and is loving every minute of her new career. The laptop still has no idea of what hit it… it only knows that it wants a rest, please. And it now has to get used to the idea that where K.C goes, it goes.

And as for those men in love that she writes about? The list of stories just waiting to be written is getting longer… and longer….

Meet Parker Williams (or at least his voices):

Good day! We are the voices that live inside Will’s head. The ones who whisper to him constantly, beckoning him to speak of our adventures, to tell of our love, and perhaps, if we’re in a mood, kill a person or two.

We guide his hand as he tells our tales where love is the most powerful force, but must be worked for, molded, and finally, embraced. There can be no shortcuts or substitutions on the path to a happily ever after.

We hope you will join with us as Will fulfills his obligation to ensure our stories are told and, we hope, enjoyed.

Our thoughts:

This is a hard review to write. I have very much enjoyed the Collars and Cuffs series from the beginning. I enjoyed meeting a new couple with each new release, yet having the opportunity to revisit a few of the’old’ couples again in that same release. They felt like family. They stole my heart. They brought happiness, tears, laughs, and emotions so worth feeling.

Endings and Beginnings is the last book in the Collars and Cuffs series. It’s the end for Leo, Thomas, and their boys. But, it’s the beginning of a new club. adventure and potential. Eli and Jared are off to start their own club under the mastery of Thomas and together they will spread the good that has come from Collars and Cuffs.

This novel was really about all the couples and, of course, one new relationship with Darren and JJ. They’re all coping with a big development. Something that impacted so many of their lives and impacted the club as a whole. We know Darren from when Thomas took Peter for his shaving prior to his rebirth. JJ is a new barman at the club but he’s got a secret that could be a game charger, impacting those he knows. Of course with this fantastic and caring group, he’s nothing to worry himself over.

Darren was passionate and takes to learning to master quite well. I liked how JJ and Darren learn together and really connect. JJ finally finds himself and that good; because, he was so twisted and confused. He realizes how much he ran from everything and how wrong that was, and unfair.

Peter has to stand up and remember his training and his progress. That big piece of news almost shatters him and pulls him away from Thomas and all he’s done to help him. Of course, Thomas will always provide and take care of his boy. Peter has grown the most of all the guys and I felt he deserved to be a big part of this story. We can leave this series knowing he’s alright and so much stronger.

I look forward to the next chapter. I grudgingly leave this series behind but I leave knowing it will be one I recommend to everyone and would read over and over again. Thank you KC Wells and Parker Williams. You wrote your hearts out and it shows on the pages of these eight books.

BLOG TOUR: Third Mate (River Wolf Pack #3) by Rebecca James

Third Mate Banner

Today we’re thrilled to welcome Rebecca James to 3 Chicks to discuss her latest River Wolf Pack  story, Third Mate.  Please join us in making her feel at home! :)

GUEST POST:

Where do we go from here?
Book three leaves our favorites in a rather precarious position, and some readers may wonder if there will be a book four. The answer is yes, probably, although the end of book three can be thought of as a stopping point. My publisher plans to put the first three books in a box set. If you’re one of those people who don’t like to read a series until it’s finished, you can safely read these three books and feel a fair sense of completion with a HFN (happily for now).

Speaking of which, there are many who talk about HFE (happily forever), and I’m of the opinion that that can only be achieved if you follow the MC’s through their entire lives and end with them old and together or dying and together (I actually read a book like this recently). I’m unlikely to write that, although never say never. I do, however, like to write books that end happily for my characters, with the reasonable assumption that they’re staying together forever.

So, what’s planned for book four?
Without really spoiling what happens at the end of book three, I’ll say there will be more of the Turned, more of Foster’s quest for his soul mate, a possible reappearance of a threat, and more sex, lol.

What else have I got going on?
Well, I have more of Nicco and Rider from Partners and Lovers. I’ve got a contemporary story in the works that’s got older/younger MC’s. I have a contemporary vampire story and a paranormal sci-fi. I’ll tell you a little about the contemporary story. It’s about a nineteen-year-old young man named Ethan who lives in the southern United States with his father who is a preacher. Ethan meets Donovan, a doctor from New York City, online and eventually arranges to meet with him. Ethan had initially lied about his age, and he never told Donovan otherwise. When Donovan finds out, he doesn’t want anything to do with Ethan. But Ethan’s had one night of passion, and he won’t be put off that easily.

Here’s a short, unedited snippet:
Rubbing my arm, I zeroed in on an empty space across the room and made my way to it, looking neither left nor right as I zig-zagged around tables. The couch was black and sort of built into the wall with colorful cushions in each corner. I sat and looked around. There were these long, swirly lamps coming down from the ceiling made with little crystals, sort of like twisted waterfalls. Two fancy chairs were facing the couch. Most of the people in the bar sat on the modern white chairs situated around tables, and even though I wanted to be alone, after a few minutes I felt really conspicuous by myself. I tried not to fidget and to look like I belonged.

“What can I get you, sir?” a young woman dressed in black pants and a plain white button-down shirt asked me. She held a tray under her arm and a pad of paper and pen in her hands.

I fished my wallet out of my pocket. I was only nineteen, but most people said I looked older, and I had a really good fake ID.

“A Tom Collins, please,” I said. That seemed like a good, safe drink. Not too fancy, not too boring. The waitress looked at my ID then at me, nodded, and walked away. I hoped no one noticed my sigh of relief. I’d told Donovan I was twenty-four and had gone to college late, when I was really only just finishing up my freshman year at the local po-dunk community college. I was working on getting in somewhere better, but one thing at a time.

I realized I was frowning and leaned back, putting one arm up over the back fo the couch, trying for casual and comfortable.

“Ethan?”

I jumped in my seat, blood rushing to my cheeks at the sound of that voice. Man, I’d know it anywhere. I turned and got my first in-person look at Donovan O’Reilly. He was even more gorgeous face-to-face, and I wouldn’t have thought that possible.

EXCERPT:

Stone’s sharp, deep voice cut into Leo’s thoughts, and he turned his attention to the front where the contentious alpha had already begun arguing his points.

“…no place for females. Do they even have any werewolf in them?”

“Of course they do; they’re mine. They are developing as quickly as any werewolf child.” River said more calmly than Leo would have under the scrutiny of so many condemning eyes.

“But have they shifted?” someone asked.

“Not yet. You know as well as I do that they could be a year old before they shift.”

If they shift,” Stone muttered. “And most do by seven months.”

“If they don’t shift,” someone else said, “they aren’t werewolves. They’ll have to leave.”

“They don’t belong here.” Stone stood, feet apart and hands on hips. Justin, Stone’s pregnant omega, cowered in submission at the sound of Stone’s displeased voice. His three beta mates sat with eyes downcast, although Leo saw Canaan glance up more than once. There was something shrewd and calculating about Canaan, and although Leo felt sorry for him after his son was killed, it didn’t make it any easier to like him.

“As my children, they certainly do belong here, as yours do, and the progeny of everyone else present,” River said, tone brooking no argument.

Stone made a frustrated sound and looked around, eyes landing on Griffin, an alpha of Stone’s age.

Griffin stood. “Your own father drove your mate’s father from the pack for having relations with a human female.”

“My father did not drive him out. Derrick was punished—told he couldn’t leave the compound. But he ran away.”

“This is true,” Old Ben called out.

“The fact remains that Thorn did not approve of the boy’s actions,” Griffin argued. “He didn’t invite Derrick to bring his female lover into the pack because females don’t belong with werewolves.”

“I don’t know what you’re getting at,” River said with a sigh. “I am not attempting to bring a female among us. My daughters were born to me, and are therefore a part of this pack.”

Before Griffin could speak again, Stone interrupted. “Which wouldn’t have happened if you hadn’t mated with the half-human, which you did without consulting the pack.”

“Josiah is a werewolf,” River said. “And I do not need to consult my pack before mating.”

Half-werewolf,” Stone corrected. “Unlike someone who willingly takes the bite and transforms, your mate will always be part human. Which is why he spawned twin abominations—”

In two steps, River crossed the room and had Stone’s neck between his hands, thumbs cutting off the alpha’s air flow. Leo glanced at the humans. Several flinched, and others looked horrified.

“Don’t you ever,” River breathed heavily into Stone’s purpling face, “ever speak of my mate or children in that manner again. Am I clear?”

Stone’s eyes bulged and his mouth gaped as he tried to dislodge River’s grip. Leo stood, along with the other alphas in the room. As pack alpha, River had the right to kill Stone for such an insult, and Leo found himself almost hoping River would. He got the feeling Stone’s mates felt similarly.

EXCLUSIVE EXCERPT:

“Maddox!” The excitement in my dad’s voice gave me pause. What the heck was so great about this guy anyway? And why did I even care? “We had a nice weekend. Seth made it home last night.”

“Yeah, I actually saw him at the park.”

I stopped dead in my tracks, standing in the doorway of the back room, out of sight. Never mind the sexy voice— he saw me? Did he see me gawking at the skater boy? Shit. People in this town knowing I was gay was one thing; seeing me ogle another man was another. Christ, I could be driven out of here by the end of the day if word got around.

That was a slight exaggeration, but still, people wouldn’t like it.

“Did you introduce yourself?” Dad rummaged around under the counter for something, making it hard for me to hear. I stepped closer.

“Nah, I didn’t want to be a creeper.”

I wanted to die. Well, not literally, but I did want to run away. When did he see me? Where? Before or after I ogled the skater boy? I waited for him to elaborate, but he didn’t. Instead he and my dad went on and on about the new truck he’d bought and the fact that Maddox would still be staying at the house, even though I was there. Great. Would the embarrassment ever end? I didn’t do well with people. Which was part of the reason why high school was so damn miserable. Sticking three hundred hormonal teenagers in one building for eight hours a day was a recipe for disaster. In college I could come and go as I pleased, and I wasn’t stuck being around the same people every single day.

I had roommates, but that was out of necessity. They were pretty cool guys, so it worked out all right, but if I could manage it, I would live alone. Too bad shelving books afterhours at the library didn’t pay the big bucks.

Maddox’s laughter brought me back to the present. Where I was an idiot stuck working with some guy who had probably caught me checking out another guy. His laughter was just as sexy as his voice. Good God. Thoughts like that had gotten me shoved into lockers around here and worse. I sighed and closed my eyes.

Just a week. I could do anything for just a week.
