Blurb:

Jordan Callahan is disillusioned about dating since he caught yet another boyfriend cheating. He’s tired of giving his heart to men who only want his body. At his five-year high school reunion, he meets up with old flame Rick Ferguson. Tall, dark, and bisexual, Rick has been his dream guy since sophomore year. But Rick is in the closet and has dated a string of women since high school. If he gives in to the temptation of Rick’s kisses, his lost love could be his future—or just another in a string of men to break his heart.

Rick has tried to live up to other people’s expectations. Everyone in his small home town is waiting for the former captain of the football team to settle down with a nice girl. Well, girls aren’t in the cards for him, and he’s done trying. He wants Jordan, his best friend since first grade. But a relationship with Jordan means coming out—disappointing his family and inviting ridicule from friends. His golden boy reputation will be shattered if he follows his heart to the only love he’s ever wanted.

Tempting Jordan

Excerpt:

Jordan’s muscles slackened, and cold anticipation formed a lump in his stomach. Rick isn’t really jealous?

But the feral look in Rick’s eyes said he was.

The hand on his shoulder nudged him toward the ballroom. Did Rick want him? Was that why he’d agreed to come stag?

Rick’s fingers idly tapped the small of Jordan’s back as they walked. The whisper of contact was odd and possessive, and it sent Jordan’s blood surging to all the wrong places. He shouldn’t have had that second scotch. He was relaxed and horny, especially with Rick so close, when he needed to keep his wits about him. Rick would never forgive him if he let something slip about their past together in front of their high school friends.

The tapping continued, revving his nerves into high gear. His fly pressed painfully against his flesh. He turned to Rick. “Will you stop touching me?”

Rick’s easy smile fled. “Why?”

He grabbed the collar of Rick’s shirt and said in his ear, “Because, dumbass, you’re making me hard.”

Rick raised his brows and smirked. They moved forward again. The tapping slowed but didn’t stop.

Our Thoughts:

Tempting Jordan is the next installment in the Second Chances series, one I’ve been highly anticipating! It all started with Jordan and Rick hooking up after a weekend at a cabin after high school and before setting off to college. There, Rick seduced Jordan into bed; a dream come true for both of them. Their lives took them in separate directions and now, five years later, they’re at a school reunion and the internal flames are igniting once again. The last installment walked through Cynthia and Trent finally taking a chance and getting together. Cynthia was Rick’s high-school girlfriend but they broke up amicably after graduation. Secretly Cynthia has longed to be with Trent. At this reunion Cynthia and Trent were working out their issues and desires all the while, Rick was lusting after Jordan again.

That lusting works both ways. Neither man has found any satisfaction since that weekend in the cabin. Rick thought he was bisexual, but it’s apparent he’s gay and only has eyes, and desires, for Jordan.

The biggest obstacle is Rick being closeted. Now that he’s accepted he’s been more interested in men, specifically Jordan, he must come to terms with being gay. He fears his life will change. He fears losing business partners, friends and possibly his parents love. The choice to have the same life or Jordan is daunting. Jordan is tired of being the second choice and starts setting limits and ultimatums. Of course everyone’s coming out should be at their own pace and on their terms. All these things Jordan and Rick must navigate over this weekend of the reunion.

Difficult choices, discoveries, faith and letting go all shape the potential for Rick and Jordan’s relationship. Will they rise above or crack under the pressure? Have they waited long enough to finally wrap each other in loving arms and declare their love or will they never find the peace needed to live as they want, together as a couple.

Our thoughts:

Coffee Date was my first novella by K. Lynn. I always enjoy discovering new authors with unique stories. Coffee Date is about Alice finding someone she truly starts to fall hard for but hasn’t disclosed her biggest secret to him and fears the impact of that final disclosure.

Alice is almost finished with her male to female transition. She’s been on hormones and has done all the steps in the process except her bottom surgery. She is a woman, even if she feels part of her body betrays her true feelings.

When Alice meets Hank, the barista, his flirting throws her off a bit. He’s forward but in a smooth, polite way. They begin to talk and flirt more and more each morning as Alice waits for her coffee. It’s not long before they actually go out on a date.

Hanks is a total gentleman and doesn’t push for more than kisses, light touches and great conversation. That’s why Alice has put off telling Hank that she’s MTF. She likes him so much and usually the result of full disclosure is the man she likes walking away. But, can she really not tell him? Their relationship cannot progress without Hank knowing so it has to happen and when it does, will Hank walk away just like the others? Will Alice give him a chance if he’s shell-shocked and says the wrong thing?

I thoroughly enjoyed this short story! It’s really hard to find stories featuring transgender main protagonists. They’re usually considering or in the process, so few actually focus on the life and trials after the transition. High marks for uniqueness and mature protagonists.

ON-SCREEN PASSION AND OFF-SCREEN INTRIGUES

Kevin Kaisho plays gay on the popular nighttime TV drama Shadow Lane. Kevin’s on-screen love interest is his long-time friend, the out and proud (and married) Nick Jantzen. After spending a press junket flirting with Nick to titillate fans, Kevin’s feelings become complicated: Nick’s husband Andrew shows up, making suggestive overtures. With unexpected desires invading his dreams, Kevin must discover what kind of starring role he really wants.

Andrew Walker is successful in his own right as a fashion designer, and he’s quite happy with his life, even if he and Nick are often kept apart by their work. But when he sees a picture of Nick and his new co-star Kevin cozied up for the camera, he’s intrigued. Can he coax Kevin–and Nick–into seeing that starring together in real life can be richer and more complex than a TV drama?

Excerpt:

Kevin decided he’d had enough. It was getting dark out and he couldn’t win at pool anymore. His pool partner, Rory, wandered to the bathroom, so Kevin was deciding whether or not he should join the few folks left in the other part of the bar for karaoke, when he saw Andrew advancing toward him in the nearly empty room. His own brain and fantasies had been so fucked up lately that for half a second Kevin wasn’t sure that it was actually Andrew.

“Hello, kittentits.”

Kevin nodded, raising his glass. “Need anything from the bar, Andrew?” It was the only way out that Kevin could see, but it was too late, Andrew already had him backed nearly against the pool table.

“No, love, I’m good. Just came to pick up Nick. Couldn’t even leave him to take a cab when he’s had this much vodka.” Andrew shrugged, smiling intimately, as if to say, We both know how he gets.

“Well, nice to see you.” Kevin’s ass hit the table behind him. He couldn’t back up any more. “I just wanted to say thank you, since I saw you over here.”

“For what?” Kevin looked around warily, finding them nearly alone but for a few regulars at the bar pointedly ignoring them.

“Whatever you did to Nick when you kissed him last week. We had the most amazing sex after. I’m sure it was all because of you and your pretty mouth.”

Kevin closed his eyes, taking a deep breath. He couldn’t take this. He didn’t even understand it. “Why are you doing this?”

Andrew watched him for a second, inscrutable, then smiling, a decision clearly made. Andrew’s smile was a warm invitation.

“Well, pretty kittentits, I want him to be happy, and truthfully I’m sure he would be very happy fucking you. I know I would be. Would it make you happy? You can make it happen if you want.” Andrew cupped his hand around the back of Kevin’s neck, just a friendly, reassuring squeeze. “It’s a huge deal, I know, but think about it,” he said, his hand grazing Kevin’s cheek before Andrew turned and walked to the other room.

Kevin stood still watching him go. He caught himself and breathed again. In every interaction they had ever had, Andrew was this even, calm presence; balance to Nick’s storm. But now it felt like Andrew was the storm, beating and thrashing against Kevin, wearing him down, turning the hard stone of his denial into sand.

“Kev!” Nick’s voice called Kevin back to the present. He turned to see Nick in the doorway, Andrew next to him, arm possessively around Nick’s waist. “Don’t forget we’re cooking out Sunday for the holiday. You should come!”

Then they were gone, out into the street, the quiet night, but for Kevin, the storm still raged.

Our thoughts:

I’ve always had a hard time grasping onto the concept of a mènage relationship that works. When I read the blurb and was offered the chance to review Star Quality, there was something about the storyline that pulled me in and compelled me to review.

Nick and Andrew have been a married couple for over a decade. They’re both successful, supportive, demanding and madly, deeply in live with each other. They’re also still passionate and lustful in the bedroom. They reminded me of a younger couple still in that ‘honeymoon’ stage of their relationship. They’re also not afraid to get a bit kinky in the bedroom and sometimes that includes a third. This is always consensual.

Kevin is Nick’s costar on a television series, Shadow Falls. They’ve been on a whirlwind press junket to promote their new season. Kevin’s first as a full-time cast member, with credits! The important reason for the tour is that Kevin’s character will be the new love interest for Nick’s character! They spend their time with the press, playing up the chemistry and relationship before viewers know it’s going to be a reality on the show. The almost kisses and romantically placed hands, the gazes and shared stories are starting to become more and more real for Kevin. He’s developing a longing for Nick that he just can’t shake.

When Andrew notices the authentic lust in Kevin’s eyes towards Nick, he decides to test the waters and see who’s wiling to let this game play out in real life and not just on-screen. Andrew is manipulative but in a sexy way. His persistence is key in this whole story. He knows what he wants, Nick agrees and now they just have to get Kevin on board.

Once it’s all set, spray down your device because these guys will cause your reader to smoke. The sexual touching, kisses upon kisses and the desire woven between the three is captivating. A classy, yet kinky threesome can be hard to find but Ajax Bell writes the sex in a way that it’s more connection and feelings, not insert tab A into tab B while sucking tab C. The need to satisfy and make each other plead for release trumps the functionality.

I quite enjoyed the build-up to the together scene. I liked all three guys, which is rare! That Nick, Andrew and Kevin went into this hoping beyond hope that it would become something more than one night was sweet and endearing. It helps build what they did into so much more and give the promise for more for their future.

Overall, I seriously enjoyed every word of Star Quality. Mènage fans and fans of well written mm erotica romance will enjoy this deliciously decadent morsel of a novella.
