The myth of Theseus and the Minotaur has never been quite this steamy!

Handsome Theseus journeys to Athens to claim his birthright as heir to the throne, and along the way he meets the roguish Pirithous, who teaches him all about matters of the heart—and body. When they reach the city, Theseus is shocked to discover that his father, the king, has a tradition of sacrificing young people to the Minotaur, the monster that inhabits the island nation of Crete.

Theseus and Pirithous, along with Iphitrion, a slave boy they befriend, set out to slay the Minotaur. After learning Crete is ruled by a mad tyrant with a fetish for orgies, Theseus puts his new skills to the test, fighting, flirting, and fornicating his way through the ranks, working his way past soldiers, satyrs, and gods alike as he attempts to accomplish his goal and save his city.

Fans of Greek Mythology looking for an erotic escape won’t want to miss this fun twist on the tale of Theseus and the Minotaur. I guess you could guess that from the title, right? Arthur Griffin takes readers on a mystical journey full of action, adventure and – of course – amoré.  It’s no secret that Ancient Greeks were known for partaking of carnal pleasures in any way they liked, and Griffin makes the most of incorporating that lusty living with a compelling romance  in this classic tale.

As Theseus embarks on his quest to meet his father, he’s adjusting to his newfound strength and status as son of Aegeus, King of Athens. As if that isn’t enough, along the way he also experiences a sensual and sexual awakening, discovering pleasures previously unknown while meeting the love of his life. Griffin makes sure this bit of romance isn’t lost in this titillating tale, enriching the story and adding to its dimension.

There’s absolutely no reason to believe that this series of events couldn’t have gone down exactly like this. Griffin’s tale reflects the far-fetched, near believable nature of mythology while keeping it grounded just enough to make it plausible. Many of the sexual encounters Theseus and friends have during the course of their quest to defeat the Minotaur are rather unexpected, adding an element of surprise and excitement that is absolutely tantalizing.

Arthur Griffin fell in love with mythology as a six-year-old when his mother, not able to find a sitter, took him with her to her art history class. They were studying Renaissance paintings of Greek and Roman legends, and he learned two very important things that day.

One, that there was a whole new world of thrilling stories and myths for him to explore and be enchanted by.

And two, dude! A lot of people were naked back then!

Since then, he’s always enjoyed the steamier side of stories of the ancient world, and is thrilled to be exploring them in his writing. Sometimes his stories are set in a fictional version of the past, or sometimes the gods of old come knockin’ (boots) in the present, but almost always there’s some element of mythology visible in his work.

Arthur lives in Los Angeles with his boyfriend and two imaginary dogs. He had an imaginary cat, but it died.

When he’s not writing fantastical tales of two (or more) dudes doing the bone dance, he enjoys hiking, karaoke, superhero comics, getting drinks in West Hollywood, going to the beach, going to the gym, going to the movies, and writing non-smutty screenplays. (But for the record, smut is WAY more fun.)

J. Johanis for Dream God (S-Gods #2)

Today  we welcome author J.Johanis to our blog as we shine a spotlight on the second novel in the S-Gods series, Dream God. Mythology, fantasy, ancient civilizations, war and lust all come together in this lovely series!

Dream God by J Johanis 800x1250

Dream God by J. Johanis
Series: S-Gods, book 2
Length: 185 Pages
Release Date: 30 November 2015

From author J. Johanis:

The S-God’s Series is dark erotica, but the plot is inspired by myth and my love of ancient civilizations. In Claimed by the Order, the storm god, Marduk, falls into the clutches of a secret order that forces him into sexual servitude. After suffering bitter betrayal, he finds love, but not where he expects it. In Dream God, Aya mourns the loss of his soul-mate to another god. He wants to move on with his life, but he must first take a stand against the gods who abused him or risk falling into their grasp once again. In book three, Akad makes the biggest, most devastating decision of his rule; one that holds drastic consequences and will shape the world as we know it. If the Council of Gods has its way, Akad will pay the ultimate price for his actions.

The S-Gods Series is intended for mature readers. Content includes graphic violence, non-con, and abuse. Book #3, Wrath of Akad, will be released in Spring 2016.

For the first time in three years, Aya is finally free, but with his freedom comes the pain of all he’s lost. Seeing Akad and Marduk together makes him realize how badly he has messed up. By betraying Marduk, he ruined his chance with the one god he desires more than anything.

Aya needs time to heal and put his world back together, but the trial against the Order looms over him. As the trial begins, Akad, Marduk, and Aya are ensnared in a web of jealousy, backstabbing, and cut-throat politics. Were they crazy to think they could stand up to the Order? If the gods of the Order can still rip their lives apart, their chances of receiving justice may be next to impossible. But if they fail to bring the Order down, Aya may never truly be free.

Content Advisory: Graphic violence, abuse, & dub-con.

“My lord Aya,” Elian said, “I’ve prepared your bath early as you requested.”

Aya groaned into his pillow. He looked up just as his servant set a wooden bucket down near the foot of his bed. Steam rose off the water.

“Thank you, Elian.” Aya needed something to curb his frustration. After slipping his skirt down, he stepped out of it, and dipped his feet into the bucket. He closed his eyes, allowing Elian to wash him. Elian ran a warm cloth over his face, then his neck and his bare chest. His touch was sensual like that of a lover, and Aya let his mind wander to the times Marduk had touched him. Elian glided the cloth down his belly, and a shiver ran up Aya’s spine. Elian’s cloth finally brushed along his member, stroking and coaxing. Blood rushed to Aya’s head as Elian’s touch aroused all his senses. When Elian’s strong fingers slid between his buttocks, Aya’s body tensed, his heartbeat quickening. Elian had always tried so hard to seduce him as a boy, but Aya had never given in. Aya had dreamed of saving himself for his soul mate—a dream that had been shattered by Seth and the Order. It seemed ridiculous to continue denying himself a man’s touch, especially that of his gorgeous concubine.

“Please,” Aya said, unsure of what he was asking. Just the thought of Elian fucking him made the heat in him rise. He closed his eyes, imagining Marduk touching him and taking control of him. Thinking of Marduk while Elian stroked him didn’t seem right, but he longed to give his body over; he wanted to feel something. Aya had been like a monk since he’d escaped the Order.

“My Lord. Will you allow me to please you?”

Unable to speak the words, Aya nodded his assent. Elian immediately pushed him back on the bed and crawled on top of him. Though Elian was mortal, his forceful manner was enough to get Aya’s blood flowing.

“Tell me what you want,” Elian said, breathless.

Aya still couldn’t speak, but he knew what he needed. “Please… just fuck me.”

A smile spread to Elian’s lips as he pushed Aya’s legs up and pressed his hard cock against Aya’s exposed hole. Elian ran his hands up Aya’s torso and pinched his nipples hard as his dick slid in. Aya gasped while Elian opened him, driving his shaft deep into his passage until his balls were flush with Aya’s ass.

“Ah,” Aya groaned, clenching handfuls of bedding, anticipating what was to come next. It soon became apparent that Elian knew how to fuck. When the first thrust came, Aya’s entire body glowed with the intense sensation. He needed this. He needed to be fucked so hard that the breath was forced from his lungs, but while his servant’s cock battered him, his mind wandered. He was once again in the Oasis pool and Marduk was inside him, riding him slowly, making him feel something he’d never felt with another.

Elian’s cock slammed into Aya once more, jarring him from his daydream. Though Marduk had been angry with Aya, he hadn’t punished him with his cock; instead he’d made love to him, slow and sweet.

“Stop!” Aya ordered, and Elian paused midstroke. Aya couldn’t stop thinking about Marduk. He’d imagined that letting Elian fuck him would change things—that maybe he’d find some satisfaction, but Elian was so forceful. All Aya could think of was Marduk’s gentle touch, and how Marduk had made love to him. When Elian pulled out, Aya rolled onto his side. His chest tightened once more. He wanted to cry and pull out his hair. He needed Marduk. No one else would ever compare. No one would ever make him feel like Marduk had.

VIRTUAL TOUR: A Guest Post from Dianne Hartsock for Nicolas

Nicolas by Dianne Hartsock
Release Date: December 18, 2015
Pages or Words: 200 pages
Publisher: Dreamspinner Press
Cover Artist: AngstyG
Categories: Contemporary, Fantasy, Gay Fiction, Mythology, Novel, M/M Romance

We welcome Dianne Hartsock to our site today! We’re excited for her to share a little more about Nicolas with all of us.

Merry Christmas! It’s a treat for me to be here at 3 Chicks After Dark. I enjoyed writing NICOLAS, my contemporary yet unconventional Christmas story. Instead of going with our well-known Santa Claus figure, I looked to the legend of St. Nicolas and his dark counterpart, the Krampus, for inspiration.

In my story, Nico spends his days traveling the earth, spreading the word of hope and peace to a troubled world. On his heels follows the Krampus, bringing nightmare in his wake, bent on revenge. Because of this, Nico has never found a safe haven, a place of peace. He can rest for a time in his villa in Italy, but soon the Krampus would come, driving him from his few friends before Krampus involved them in his cruel games.

For this reason, Nico could no longer experience the joy that was Christmas. There was no one special to share the day with, no holiday traditions to ease the loneliness in his heart. This is the reason Jamie is drawn to him almost immediately. His kind heart is stirred by Nico’s suffering. He knows the meaning of loneliness and feels Nico is a kindred spirit.

For me, Christmas is filled with tradition. Maybe not as much as when my children were little, but enough. We put our tree up around my Birthday, December 12th. We go for a drive on Christmas Eve to see the Christmas lights set up in town, then have dinner at my Mother-in-Law’s house. The kids spend the night with us, and we’re up early Christmas morning for stockings and hot chocolate.

Nico has no traditions to share. He’s never had a tree. Never woke up Christmas morning to share gifts and a peaceful morning with a loved one. Jamie sees this and vows in his fierce heart to aide him in his struggle against the Krampus despite the danger to them both. In this story, Nico will either put an end to the Krampus’s cruelties, or be destroyed. This time, he won’t back down.

Betrayed by a lover, Jamie rents an isolated cabin on Lake Huron, wanting only to be left alone. Instead, he is pulled from his solitary existence as an artist and tumbles headlong into the legend of Saint Nicolas.

As a young man, Nicolas accidentally killed a man intent on murdering three children, only to have the man’s malicious spirit rise up against him. Fleeing through the centuries from the Krampus, the evil troll-like creature that dogs his steps, Nico finds refuge with the young artist who takes him into his home and bed. But Jamie has questions. Who is Nicolas, and why does the Krampus want to destroy him?

When the Krampus begins to torment and torture anyone Nico comes in contact with to punish him, Jamie’s life is put in danger. And Jamie isn’t sure whether he can help Nico defeat his nemesis or if he’s merely a pawn in the Krampus’s game.

Jamie startled awake. “What?”

He had trouble breathing, the crushing weight on his chest seeming to have followed him up from his dreams. But that couldn’t be right. He’d rented the cabin for its isolation. No one should be there. Did he still dream?

A warm breath brushed against his cheek, sending a shiver of dread and strange anticipation through him. “Easy, baby,” a silky voice whispered in the darkness. Sharp teeth nipped his earlobe and pleasure and pain sparked along his nerves. His eyes adjusted to the moonlight filtering through the sheer curtains, and he stared in amazement at the man gazing at him with wild green eyes, long pale hair, high cheekbones and a slender neck he craved to run his tongue along.

The stranger laid his weight on him, driving the air from his lungs and making Jamie struggle for every breath. Shifting position, the man sealed his full lips over Jamie’s, drawing a long groan from Jamie when an impossibly large cock slid against his. In sudden panic he reached to shove his unknown visitor away and touched hot skin and lean muscles. Of their own volition his hands roamed lower, following the curve of the stranger’s back to the rounded swell of his ass. He drew a quick breath and the man laughed into his mouth, pushed his tongue deep, thrusting inside to match the movement of his hips as he ground against Jamie’s aching dick.

Heat pooled in Jamie’s stomach. God, what was happening? The thing in his bed looked like a man, but his every instinct shouted otherwise. His skin was warm when it should have been cold from being outside. And how had he gotten in? All the windows and doors were locked tight against the winter storm. It was as if he’d just materialized in Jamie’s bed. “Who—”

He cried out when a hand pushed between them and grabbed their cocks, stroking them together until he lost the ability to think. So close! He grabbed onto the man’s firm ass and yanked him tighter against him, rising up to shove into his strong grip.

The triumphant hiss in his ear shot ice through his veins. “So naughty.”

“No!” Jamie struggled to sit up, scrambling back against the headboard. He blinked, finding himself alone in the room, only his ragged breaths disturbing the silence of the cabin. A forgotten anxiety knotted his stomach. Naughty. He hated that word, tossed about by the boys he once knew in school. The ones he’d suck off behind the gym, desperate for a gentle hand in his hair, balm against his loneliness. He’d been terrified his parents would find out he was different, that he liked girl things and found boys much more exciting than he should. They would know he was gay and there would be hell to pay for their freak of a son.

He scrubbed a hand over his face. God, that had been ages ago. The last shreds of the dream dissipated, and he reached for the bedside light, fumbling in the darkness for the switch. Low light stung his eyes and he blinked at the empty bedroom, unable to believe the attack hadn’t been real.

He flung off the heavy quilts and slid to his feet, clinging to the post at the foot of the bed as a wave of dizziness struck him. Laughter from the other room jolted him. Heart pounding, he bolted for the door and it crashed into the wall as he flung it open. The reddish glow from the banked fire on the hearth lit the main room of the cabin, though the kitchen area remained in shadows.

Jamie’s gaze swept the rooms, focusing on the dark corners. No one jumped out at him. Nobody sat on the couch. His coffee cup remained undisturbed where he’d left it on the hearth. Of course. The cabin was isolated, miles from the nearest neighbor. Who would bother to come way out there, especially with the threat of another snowstorm on the way?

He ran a trembling hand through his hair, pushing the sweat-drenched bangs from his forehead. Christ, the dream had seemed so real. The cold of the great room finally registered, creeping up from the hardwood flooring. Shaking, he crossed to the fireplace and stirred up the coals, adding another log.

With a sigh, he sank into the cushions of the worn couch and pulled the woolen afghan around his bare shoulders. The log caught and the fire crackled, sparks dancing up the flue. Recalling his dream and the hard body against his, he shrugged when his cock perked up.

“It’s been a while,” he acknowledged, watching the flames lick at the oak log. He’d signed a year’s lease on the cabin, right after catching his boyfriend in the stairwell of their apartment building, making out with their neighbor. It hadn’t been the first time, either, though again Patrick had his apologies ready. That had been over six months ago, and since the cabin stood miles over rough terrain from the nearest town, he’d rarely seen another human being in all that time.

“Just the way I like it,” he told the indifferent fire burning its way through the wood. But the stranger’s lips in his dream had been soft, his thrusting tongue sweet in Jamie’s mouth. He hadn’t liked the violent aspect of the dream, but if that had been a lover in his bed? His dick pressed against his thigh, and Jamie reached under the heavy blanket, moaning when he took its heavy weight in his hand. Drawing lazy circles on his balls, he let the pleasure build slowly, lifting his cock while in his mind the stranger licked the glistening head, his pale gold hair a curtain of silk against Jamie’s sensitive skin. He moaned as the man slid his tongue down the thick vein on the underside of his cock.

His mind flitted over the question of whether the guy would fuck him or want it the other way around. Didn’t matter to him. He liked it both ways. Rolling to his back, Jamie continued to stroke himself while he tugged his tight balls, then pressed a finger against his hole. He remembered the lube in the nightstand drawer by the bed, but he wasn’t about to stop, and hissed when he pushed the finger inside. The man’s cock had been huge in his dream. What would it feel like as it stretched him open? Would it be enough to fill all the empty spaces inside him?

It was a moment before the tolling of a bell outside the cabin registered. What the fuck? Jamie sat up, trying to hear past the pounding of his pulse in his ears. His cock throbbed and he groaned in frustration, knowing he couldn’t chase his pleasure until he found out what was going on at the dock. The only one to boat in was the man who dropped off his monthly supplies, and he’d been and gone two days ago. Who else would be using the dock? Jamie had been isolated for months without anything disturbing his peace. But this night he’d had a wildly erotic dream and now this. What made tonight so special?

Meet the author:

Dianne grew up in one of the older homes in the middle of Los Angeles, a place of hardwood floors and secret closets and back staircases. A house where ghosts lurk in the basement and the faces in the paintings watch you walk up the front stairs. Rooms where you keep the closet doors closed tight at night. It’s where her love of the mysterious and wonderful came from.

Dianne now lives in the beautiful Willamette Valley of Oregon with her incredibly patient husband, who puts up with the endless hours she spends hunched over the keyboard letting her characters play. She says Oregon’s raindrops are the perfect setting in which to write. There’s something about being cooped up in the house with a fire crackling on the hearth and a cup of hot coffee warming her hands, which kindles her imagination.

Currently, Dianne works as a floral designer in a locally-owned gift shop. Which is the perfect job for her. When not writing, she can express herself through the rich colors and textures of flowers and foliage.

Accidentally in Love with…A God? by Mimi Jean Pamfiloff

Accidentally in Love With...A God? coverRelease Date: October 29, 2013
Published by: Forever (Grand Central Publishing)
Review Copy from NetGalley

I have a confession to make – I read this book on kind of a dare from a friend. I do love paranormal romance so it really wasn’t a stretch for me, but it wasn’t even on my radar until she mentioned it. I tend to be more of a vampire/shifter kind of girl, but I’ve been known to like some mythology or demons/gods thrown in. Based on the title and cover I was expecting a sort of unrequited or forbidden love story, but what I got was a whole lot more.

The basis for the story is that main character Emma’s just your average city girl trying to find love and make it through life but she’s plagued by the voice of a man only she can hear. At first this struck me as kind of cheesy; she’s going to fall in love with someone she can’t see and only she can hear? Pamfiloff makes it pretty clear early on that it’s more than that. There’s an entire mystery/suspense plot that really takes off and adds a lot of excitement and drives the story.  We learn more about the man inside her head, his past and what it really is that ties these two together.  The world Pamfiloff creates is pretty complex and action packed, and there’s a labyrinth of situations and circumstances they must weather if they can ever truly be together.

Well, that is if they even want to be together. One thing I struggled with in this story was the yo-yo of emotions. Guy (Emma’s name for the god whose voice is in her head) manages to convince Emma to help him escape physical captivity which will ultimately give her peace and quiet. They’re both so ready to meet and finally see the other, and it seems they might have some strong feelings for each other. Sounds perfect, right? They’ll fall in love at first sight and live happily ever after. Well…not exactly. Once they’re finally united in person, they can’t get along. Emma begins what becomes a book long emotional roller coaster of trust, lust and denial. She was pulling him closer and pushing him away time after time. Guy wasn’t necessarily helping matters either; one second he’s kissing her like his life depends on it, the next he’s rejecting her for her own good.  Their lack of communication doesn’t help matters, even if I mostly attributed that to Guy withholding information from her. Talk about feeling a little frustrated all the way around. Thankfully it’s all sorted out eventually.

I enjoyed the way Pamfiloff wrote Emma with so much snark, wit and sarcasm. I appreciated all her pop culture references. It made me laugh out loud when Emma acknowledges she shares a moniker with English rock band, Keane.  The style definitely added a little bit of levity to some intense situations and what could otherwise have been a pretty dark story.

This book is the first in the Accidentally Yours series, and I’m pretty curious about the other books. I mean the way she ends the epilogue? There HAS to be more – you can’t just leave it like that! Also there are so many really interesting characters that I hope to see more of in their own stories – especially Cimil. That girl has to be up to no good. Not to mention Tommaso – he’s been through so much and deserves some happiness. I hope he gets it.
