Knit Tight COVER
Cover Artist: Fiona Jayde

It’s no secret that Portland, Oregon, has some of best restaurants, shops, and cafés in the country. But it’s the hard-working men who serve it all up that keep us coming back for more…

One of Portland’s hottest young baristas, Brady is famous for his java-topping flair, turning a regular cup of joe into a work of art. Every Wednesday—aka “Knit Night”—hordes of women and their needles descend on the coffeehouse, and Brady’s feeling the heat. Into the fray walks a tall, dark, and distractingly handsome stranger from New York. His name is Evren, and he’s the sexy nephew of Brady’s sweetest customer, the owner of the yarn shop down the street. He’s also got a killer smile, confident air, and masculine charm that’s tying Brady’s stomach in knots. The smitten barista can’t wait to see him at the next week’s gathering. But when he tries to ask Evren out, his plans unravel faster than an unfinished edge. If Brady hopes to warm up more than Evren’s coffee, he’ll have to find a way to untangle their feelings, get out of the friend zone, and form a close-knit bond that’s bound to last a lifetime…

EXCERPT:

“Why? Am I turning you on?” My hand wandered over my fly. Not stroking, just firm pressure. We’d danced past sexy talk, far out of the friend zone, now meandering into something dark and heady. I pressed hard against my aching erection as I waited to see how far Ev would let himself go.

“Perhaps. I told you some things, now you tell me. What is your favorite thing?”

“Uh. The long, slow grinding ending in oral that you just described sounds amazing and hits a lot of my buttons. For the record, I’m totally good with…mess. And I like giving oral. Love getting my throat fucked. Being pinned down while grinding or getting my throat fucked, that gets me going.”

Ev was silent a long moment. Perhaps I’d pushed him too far. “Tell me about this throat fucking. How do you like it?”

Aw yes. I’d never had phone sex, but I had a feeling we were about to head in that direction. “Where are you right now?”

“In my bed. With a closed door. Are you going to ask me what I’m wearing next?”

“Knitted underwear?” I laughed as I headed for the bathroom—the one room with a lock. My usual jerk-off method was a locked door and a longer-than-necessary shower.

“Sorry to disappoint. Pajama bottoms. I worry Hala Mira could need me in the night.”

“Hey, you don’t have to apologize to me. I share a room with a ten-year-old. I’m going to the bathroom now, though. And locking the door.”

“You require a locked door to tell me about giving head?”

“I require a locked door, a quiet house, and about three hours to show you,” I countered. “Fuck, Ev. I want you to wear me out.”

“Oh, I could. Do not doubt that, Brady. You want me to wear your throat out? Use you so much you need me to feed you some gelato after?”

“Fuck yes,” I whispered. “I’d like it if you were on the bed or in a chair and I were kneeling in front of you. Or you were standing in front of me. Me on my knees is the key thing.”

“You ever try with your head over the edge of the mattress? It happens that this bed is the perfect height for that…”

“Oh yes. Tell me more. I want to jerk off while you fuck my throat like that.”

“Ah. But I don’t want that. Perhaps we will need to find other occupation for your hands.”

Oh man. Ev knew how to turn my crank big-time. “I’m good with having my hands tied.”

I could tell from his inhalation that it worked for him, too. “How flexible are you?”

“Bendier than I look. I had to do yoga stretching exercises to rehab a skateboarding injury. Turns out I dig it.”

“Nice. Very nice. I like your mouth very, very much.”

“Like the beard? Because if you want my mouth more…exposed, I can work with that. Beard is pure Northwest laziness on my part.”

“The beard is…part of the appeal. Your mouth is very full and your beard always seems like it’s…teasing. I think I want your hair down, though, yes?”

“Go for it.” Getting into it, I pulled my hair free of the ponytail, let it flop against my shoulders. Spit gathered in my mouth like I really was about to get a go at Ev’s cock. Fuck. Just the thought had me throbbing. I unzipped to get a little more breathing room. “I want to—”

Knock. Knock. Knock. “Brady, are you in there? I don’t feel so good,” Jonas called through the door.

Fuck. I kept my curse to myself. “Just a minute, buddy,” I called.

“You need to go?” Ev said in my ear. “I understand.”

“Yeah, I’m sorry.”

“Another time, Brady, another time.”

Even if he just meant the phone-sex version of the fantasy, part of me thrilled to his words. And I was pulling hard for the in-person.

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Portland, Oregon, aka Hotlandia, where the coffee shops, restaurants, and bakeries are ready to serve everything piping hot, fresh, and ready to go—like the hard-working, hard-bodied men behind the counters—with no reservations…

Sure, Chris O’Neal has problems. His restaurant is still co-owned by his ex. His flannel-and-tattoos style is making him accidentally trendy. He can’t remember the last time he went out and had fun. But he’s not lonely, he’s driven. And the hot bakery delivery boy is not his problem, no matter how sweet his buns.

Chris is old enough to know Lance Degrassi’s sculpted good looks and clever double entendres spell nothing but trouble. Lance is still in college—he should be hitting the clubs and the books, chasing guys his own age, not pursuing some gruff motorcycle-riding workaholic. Especially when he’ll be leaving for grad school in a few months. But Lance keeps hanging around, lending a hand, charming Chris to distraction. Maybe some steaming hot no-strings indulgence won’t hurt.

Then again, maybe it will…

OUR THOUGHTS:

If I had to think of one phrase to describe Delivered Fast it would be “full speed ahead”. What starts as attraction and innocent flirtation between Chris and the new bakery delivery boy almost unknowingly becomes something more.  Annabeth Albert keeps a fast pace while Lance and  Chris get to know each other, and she wastes no time making things happen. I was never bored and the story never stalls,  in fact, at times I was almost struggling to come up for air. :)

For me this is the best kind of relationship development – neither guy is looking for anything serious. Chris is still a little jaded after a bad break-up with his ex, and Lance has plans for the future that don’t include sticking around Portland for the next few years. But despite each of them saying they just want something casual, their actions say otherwise. This might be part of what had me falling for these guys fast and hard – they fall in love little by little, one touch, one glance at a time. I can totally see how their connection kind of sneaks up on them as they slowly, steadily become entrenched in each others’ lives. It’s almost like they’re just enjoying the ride and before they know it they’re in deep.

I say it sneaks up on them, but I get the impression Chris sees it coming. Getting pretty much his point of view, that insight gives us an up-close, intimate view of how his feelings grow and change and his awareness of just how screwed he’s going to be when this fling ends. Like all good romances, Albert gives us messy and gritty – I feel like it’s the perfect amount of tension and conflict. She didn’t have to make me hate anyone in order to bring us to the black moment, and it wasn’t an unrealistic, magical resolution. These guys have to work to find their way, and I appreciate the way she makes them communicate.

I’ve been feeling a bit down thinking this story is the end of the Portland Heat series, but I’m elated to report on Annabeth Albert’s website there’s a Portland Heat #4, tentatively titled Knit Tight, coming in June 2016. That seems like an interminable time to wait, but she’s got quite a few other works coming in the meantime to keep us entertained.

RATING: ONE BAD ASS BOOT, ONE STILETTO!

When he learns that Robin is suddenly single after being unceremoniously dumped, Vic is more than happy to offer a shoulder to cry on—or at least a fresh-baked pastry to bite into. But it’s been a long time since Vic’s gone on a date, and he’s nervous about risking his friendship with Robin. OUR THOUGHTS:
How does a casual fling/New Year’s resolution turn into something so complicated and rife with emotional entanglements? Annabeth Albert pens a story about love, longing, trust and forgiveness that really cranks up the angst until you’re not sure you can take it.  Just when it seems you’ll be consumed with despair, she delivers a glimmer of hope. Thankfully that one shining moment is bright – a beacon that promises change and healing.

Vic and Robin are great guys who’re really struggling to find their way in this crazy world. Vic’s intent on moving forward from the loss that overshadows his past, and he’s set his sights on Robin. After Robin’s latest love dumps him, Vic sees his chance to provide comfort and a shoulder to cry on. Robin takes him up on his offer for a casual fling, but there’s no way either could predict where things would go from there.

As much as Robin and Vic’s story is about love and living, it’s also about faith and trust. These guys deal with so many difficult issues and try to cope with experiences in their pasts, making it tough to believe in anyone but themselves. Believe me,  sometimes it seems they don’t even have that. Slowly but surely Albert builds them up and gives them the tools they need to heal and trust in each other. It’s a slow process, one that conveys just how intensely they’ve been hurt before. This sedate pace makes it all the more gratifying when they finally do manage to open up and let each other in.

Baked Fresh definitely isn’t just another warm, fuzzy m/m romance. As Vic and Robin navigate the tumultuous waters of their budding relationship, Albert deals with some heavy hitting issues like homophobia, homelessness, and drug abuse and addiction. The shelter where Vic and Robin volunteer lends itself to a diverse, somewhat troubled population, and the intensity of the risks is amplified when tragedy hits close to home. On the flip side it’s nice to see Albert use the shelter to build a support network for Vic and Robin; they share a sense of community and family united for a common cause to help and support those who need it.

At the end of Baked Fresh is a sneak peek at Book 3 of the series, Delivered Fast. I’m excited that one of the main characters is none other than Vic’s brother, Lance! Looks like our sweet little delivery boy’s going to cook up a little romance of his own. Can’t wait!

ThinkYouKnow Annabeth AlbertOn each stop of the tour, Annabeth Albert is sharing a couple fun facts about herself.  You’ll find ours listed below – be sure to pay special attention, because you just might need them for the giveaway later. ;)

Q1. What’s your favorite beverage (alcoholic or non)?

AA: An iced sugar free peppermint mocha latte

Q2. Did you have an embarrassing nickname as a kid?

AA: I was teased a lot, so I had a lot of not-so great names thrown my way.

EXCERPT:
A little idea niggled at my brain—like an evil elf had tapped me on the shoulder. “You know, if you give me your card, I could call you if you leave your wallet behind again.”

There. His cheeks went dusky pink. I finally got a blush out of him, but hell if I could decipher what it meant. I could predict people’s taste in coffee, down to preferred syrup flavor, but I still sucked at decoding anything as complex as human emotions.

“Ah. Um.” He did the nervous cough thing again.

“Never mind.” I wiped my hands on my apron. “I’d better get back.”

“Wait.” He opened the wallet, plucked out a white card with a blue logo, and offered it to me. His broad fingers brushed mine again as he handed it over. Another barely there touch, but I felt the charge all the way down my spine, like I’d chugged a triple shot.

My breath tripped with wishing he’d add a “call me anytime.” Brian would have. But David just stood there silently. Straighter than the Fremont Bridge and denser than a concrete pylon.
