To say I’ve been looking forward to this book for a long time would be the understatement of the year. I’ve been hooked on Olivia Cunning’s Sinners on Tour series since reading Backstage Pass earlier this year. I devoured the first two books in under 48 hours, and the wait for the third book seemed depressingly long. I was looking forward to seeing how the story progressed in Jace’s book.
You see, the writing in this series just sucks you in. Despite the hot & steamy scenes between characters, you start to feel for these guys as musicians and people. Each has his own hang up, and you want to be there as they work through them. Brian & Sed’s stories were each riveting in their own regard, but the two band members that piqued my curiosity most were Jace & Trey. There’s just something about them that made me wonder and want more.
Not long after finishing Rock Hard came the news that Trey’s book would be released third. I think my fellow Sinners groupies and I did the happiest of happy dances – we all LOVE Trey Mills. Just the mere mention of cherry suckers makes women everywhere want to cry. So to have Trey’s book next seemed like a dream come true. Unfortunately that’s where the dream ended.
Now to be fair, Trey’s story is AMAZING. I can’t say enough about how much I love this book – Sinners groupies everywhere will be very pleased. You see a depth to Trey that has been there from the beginning and is now fully explored. The relationships in this book are well done and the sex is HOT. I think Olivia Cunning has beaten her own gold standard for hotness in a book. My issue with Trey’s story being Sinners #3 is this book isn’t a continuation from Rock Hard. There are spoilers abounding from Jace & Eric’s stories, and as a reader I feel kind of cheated. Going back to their books now will seem like a flashback since I already know where they end up. As for Brian & Trey’s bromance/friendship, how will I be able to believe the feelings Trey’s supposed to have for Brian again knowing how that all ends? The ending of this book feels like goodbye; all the plot lines are resolved and everything is wrapped up. Not to mention that Exodus End plays a prominent role in this book, and that would have been the perfect segue into their series. (Yes, I’m still hoping that Olivia Cunning will write those books. I have a serious obsession with Dare Mills. LOL)
I’m not sure who made the decision to release the books out of order, but I’m afraid it wasn’t the right one for me. I almost wish I could go back and unread it so I could wait and read them in order. As hard as it was to wait for the third book, waiting even longer and getting the story as it was intended would be worth it. I’m a huge fan of Olivia Cunning and all her books, so it’s been difficult for me to recommend to friends that they should wait. I’m not saying never read it, just not yet. Trey Mills will be worth the wait.
RATING: BAD ASS BOOTS!
