The Sixth Chukker is the third book in my Polo Series. It continues three years after Ride-Off and fans of the first two novels will be in for a treat as the entire cast of characters—plus one sexy new addition—reunite in this ongoing saga of the Fawkes-Schnell clan. Reading the first two novels, Fire Horse and Ride-Off, will give you a better appreciation of the family dynamics. I hope you’ll come along for the ride as retired polo players Preston and Konrad deal with former lovers, demanding children, and old enemies.
I’d like to thank 3 Chicks After Dark for giving me an opportunity to appear on this wonderful blog and share an exclusive excerpt of The Sixth Chukker. A special shout-out to my publicist J for her consistent good work in organizing all my blog tours. As usual, I bring a few giveaways, which you’ll find in the Rafflecopter widget.
We would like to thank Mickie Ashling for having us on her excerpt tour for The SIxth Chukker! It’s been our pleasure!
ABOUT THE SIXTH CHUKKER
Retired polo players Preston Fawkes and Konrad Schnell have finally found the happiness that eluded them for years. Their stud farm is a big success, and their marriage couldn’t be healthier. Unfortunately, this idyllic life is disrupted by several unexpected sources.
Paloma, Preston’s twenty-one-year-old daughter, is determined to be a 10 goal player before she turns thirty. Bandi, Konrad’s son, dreams of starting a family with his partner, Ned Temple. Paloma offers to surrogate if her father and stepfather come out of retirement and team up with her for one season.
Preston and Konrad would do anything to make their children happy, but they’re confronted with a stumbling block. Trauma specialist Dr. Rayne Carlisle refuses to sign off on the necessary paperwork unless Preston agrees to be his submissive for one week.
Caught between the proverbial rock and hard place, Preston and Konrad deal with disgruntled lovers, demanding children, and old enemies in this sequel to Ride-Off.
Preston sighed but walked out of the room with his pillow in one hand and a blanket in the other. He traversed the long corridor and took the stairs two at a time. In the library, he made a small nest on the sofa closest to the fireplace. There were a few glowing embers remaining on the grate, and he threw a new log on top of them and watched as it slowly caught fire. After adding one more for good measure, he toed off his boots and slid down on the sofa.
Once more, he recalled the heated exchange with Carlisle and his earlier outburst with Konrad. He hadn’t exaggerated when he complained about being preoccupied with family matters. He wouldn’t have it any other way, but they had to admit he’d been carrying a massive load. And to be honest, he doubted that Carlisle suffered from a broken heart. It was more likely a bruised ego. People like him weren’t used to being rejected in favor of a scarred and traumatized ex-lover. It was unheard of, and Preston was certain that anger and revenge were the driving forces behind the man’s unreasonable behavior. And that was the kind of emotion Preston could understand.
His next move would be determined by the outcome of his visit to the new doctor. If the guy gave him a clean bill of health, he’d move on with his life and turn his back on Carlisle. If the results were unfavorable, he’d reevaluate his situation and pay Carlisle another visit. Preston had no qualms about using his powers of persuasion, i.e. his body, but he’d promised Konrad. On the other hand, desperate times…. If he could show up with the papers he needed, a fait accompli, would it really matter how they were obtained? Konrad might not like the idea of sharing Preston, but the happiness on Bandi’s face would trump his anger, wouldn’t it? Christ, he was much too old for this shit.
He woke up to warm heat engulfing his cock. Tantalizing licks around the base, up the underside, and then down again. Konrad’s hair gleamed in the shadow of the soft flames still dancing around in the fireplace, and Preston reached out to run his fingers through the soft silk. Konrad looked up, and their blue eyes locked. The emotion radiating from Konrad was so powerful, Preston forgot to breathe. He sucked in a lungful eventually and shut his eyes, overwhelmed by the intensity. Konrad continued to tease around the tip of Preston’s cock, and he slowly sucked him down. When the spongy head hit the back of Konrad’s throat, he swallowed.
Preston moaned with pleasure, and then whined pitifully as Konrad eased off, but he sighed with happy relief when the warm mouth engulfed him once more. He sucked and released several times, turning Preston into a throbbing, needy mess. Konrad cupped Preston’s balls gently and slid a finger behind them, stroking the perfect spot, knowing when to press, rub, and flick that finger, all the while sucking and twirling his tongue around Preston’s cock until his muscles contracted and he shouted out his release. Konrad swallowed greedily as Preston came in hot spurts, and after he was finally done, Konrad slithered up his man and lay his head on Preston’s thumping chest.
“I love you, Flea.”
“I know, baby… I know.”
“Sorry for being such an ass.”
“No, it’s okay. This situation sucks.”
“Come upstairs with me. I can’t sleep without you.”
“In a minute.”
They fell asleep on the sofa within seconds, and when Preston woke up, Konrad was gone. He couldn’t remember if he’d dreamed the entire event, but he reached down and found his jeans undone, his flaccid cock hanging out of his underwear, and he realized it had been real after all. He sat up with a groan, cursing old age, arthritis, and the stupidity of falling asleep in such cramped quarters.

By the time Mickie discovered her talent for writing, real life got in the way, and the business of raising four sons took priority. With the advent of e-publishing—and the inevitable emptying nest—dreams of becoming a published writer were resurrected and she’s never looked back.
She stumbled into the world of men who love men in 2002 and continues to draw inspiration from their ongoing struggle to find equality and happiness in this oftentimes skewed and intolerant world. Her award-winning novels have been called “gut wrenching, daring, and thought provoking.” She admits to being an angst queen and making her men work damn hard for their happy endings.
